Friends,
I am asking for prayers for our Buffalo Bill’s football player, Kevin Everett, who was tragically seriously injured when he fractured his cervical spine on the opening kickoff in the second half in Sunday’s football game with the Denver Broncos. Here is the story:
http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news_5221.html
This young man’s life still is in the balance, and we’re SO sad for he and his family. Would you please pray fervently for him, and his family? We’re frightened for him, and his life right now, and we’re extremely saddened by this tragic injury. I can’t tell you just how sad this community is, and how we embrace our sports players in this community. I suppose that’s why we, *The 12th Man* hang on the WALL of Fame at the stadium! We truly feel the pain of our players, and I’ve been crying on and off for he, and his family since Sunday.
I feel so helpless, and truly am trying to ask anyone I can to pray for him, in hopes of a miracle for him. If you want to send him a message, letting him know you’re praying, you can do so here: http://www.buffalobills.com/KevinEverett.jsp
Our entire team could also use your prayers. They're all SO shaken up, as is the entire community. And our team suffered so many injuries this past Sunday, Kevin's a career ending injury, and two season ending injuries. We already had a couple of difficult injuries going into the game. This is truly a difficult year for our entire team and our community.
Thank you all!
Love,
Tracy

My guy at ESPN tells me that this afternoon's news is hopeful. His doctor is saying there is a possibility he'll regain the use of his legs.Sounds like today was better than they could have expected yesterday. Keep praying!

Things do sound more hopeful. I am so glad this young man has an entire city rooting for him (plus us...and we are good pray-ers!). I've been through the son-with-serious-sports-injury thing...and I will pray, for sure.

Yes! There is MUCH better news this morning on the local news (and at espn.com last night that I read as well)! They used a new treatment when they got Kevin to the hospital, which was to flush his spinal chord with a cool saline solution, bringing him into a mild hypothermic state, trying to minimize the swelling to it, a newer technique in spinal chord injuries they've been trying in practice, and it seems to be working!!!
It's been said Kevin's moved his arms and legs, and has voluntary movement, something that is incredible! I have been praying for a miracle for this young man, and now this news has made me SO happy this morning!! They're even saying (the doctors from a Miami place that specializes in spinal chord injuries) that it's possible he could even WALK OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!!!
I can't TELL you how I'm feeling this morning, I'm in absolute SHOCK! I am trying to guard my emotions, because we don't know what the outcome will be yet, and Kevin still needs a LOT of prayers, as does his family. But this is SO encouraging!
Ironically, the Miami hospital where this treatment (cooling down with saline) is still in the experimental stage. This hospital just happens to be a place to which Ralph Wilson, our team's owner has been a HUGE contributor; AND, our hospital here where Kevin was taken is the ONLY hospital in OUR area that even does this experimental treatment! Or maybe, this isn't irony whatsoever!
Another ironic thing is that our local Bishop just happened to be at the football game on Sunday. He immediately began praying, and has rallied Catholics all over the area (and there are a LOT here ) to pray in earnest for this young man! He has distributed a prayer written on Kevin's behalf to the Catholic schools and churches for this area.
Here is that prayer:
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Bishop Edward Kmiec has called on Western New York Catholics to offer prayers for the recovery of Buffalo Bills Tight End Kevin Everett, and the well being of his friends, family, and teammates.
The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo distributed the following prayer to Catholic Schools and Parishes within the Diocese:
Prayer for Kevin Everett
Lord Jesus, you came as healer of body and spirit, we pray for Kevin Everett in this time of crisis. Help Kevin by sending your Holy Spirit to heal, comfort and strengthen him. We ask also for your tender care to be with Kevin's mother, family, friends, and teammates as well as all those who are caring for him at this time, that they will find hope and comfort in your compassion and love. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.
I'm just SO excited at this encouraging news today. I've been asking Father Baker to pray for him, and give him a miracle!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your prayers. I came here, because YOU LADIES and your families' prayers are an incredible blessing to so many. They are truly special, as are all of you. Thank you for praying for this young man, and his family. We truly appreciate it.
Love,
Tracy
