Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

(sorry this is long...)

I have officially been accepted to the Montessori training (that's the good news) in Minnesota. It's an afternoon only program, but I've not been able to find affordable childcare close enough to the training center (I have an OLD van and I really need to make it last). Plus, I need to work - I'd hoped to have enough in savings to avoid this, and we've had such a tight budget this last year, but the money just didn't add up as fast as I'd hoped (I did pay for all my college tuition last year out of pocket - so no loans, which is a big plus).

Therefore my son will be at a Montessori school all day long. I will be an assistant in his classroom in the mornings, therefore his tuition will be reduced by the employee discount as well as a discount the school provides for children of trainees.

I have been essentially at-home/with-him since the moment of his conception. ONE semester I had a weekly 7 hour day (and a second day of only 3 1/2 hours) - but his godfather took care of him in my home. All his other babysitters have either been grandma (24 hour separation for monthly CGS training), neighbors/cherished-friends who have known him and cared for him off and on since he was 4 months old, his godmother only a handful of times, and one girl I hired for a weekly 2 hour stint for one semester (I knew her already). I've always been a full-time college student since he was born, but this will be our first LONG and regular separation.

He'll do fine, I'm sure! It's me I'm concerned about! We'll go to early morning Mass, then to his school, then leave him for 4 1/2 hour training, pick him up, make dinner, try to spend some time together as a family, put him to bed, do schoolwork, and start all over again the next day. At least his afternoons will include naptime (take up some of his time AND allow for a slightly less cranky child in the evenings), and we will have every meal together (trying to look on the bright side!).

I'm whining, I know. It's only for 10 months, less Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, Saturdays are entirely open, Sundays are Mass and work a side-job in a nursery at a non-Catholic church, then all afternoon to be together. I just hope I can stay on top of the schoolwork without cutting into family time.

When this is over, I am re-opening the in-home daycare as an official Montessori preschool/kindergarten, and expand from there.

Here's the prayer request part: please pray that I have the strength and stamina to do all of this gracefully (really, I'll be doing less than I usually do - the focus is just NOT on the home though!) - and any other prayer intentions that may have popped out at you. I certainly can't even think of all the graces I might need.

Oh and one practical request of all those who live around the Twin Cities: we will be sort of homeless from August 6-31 (it's a long story - we DO have a place to stay overnight, but our things will be in storage; and one week somewhere in there will be spent in Indiana with his godmother) - if anyone would like to have a 3 year old and his mother come over to play/visit for a few hours one or two days, please PM me. It would be nice to meet others in the area, as well as give my son someone to play with during some of the days.
