... who has a host of medical problems right now. They just discovered an abdominal aneurysm, and he is going for surgery tomorrow (he's in the Philippines so it's very possible they're doing it now). Besides this, they also recently found a mass in his liver, which they attribute to anti-cholesterol medication. Lastly, his results came back positive for prostate cancer.
I don't know if anyone will recall but we here in the US were heartbroken last year after my brother and my SIL decided that she was going home to pursue her medical career, after just a year of being married. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they would be doing this and why God was allowing it to happen. Thankfully I didn't say anything but just prayed for them, following also the advice of people here. Now we are starting to see how good it is that she did go home -- she's a dr. herself and was the one who finally convinced their dad that he needed to be checked.
Thankfully, my brother is also currently in the Philippines with her, for a month -- they had planned this vacation for him so they can spend time with each other at least once a year. I am so glad they have each other to lean on during this most crucial time. Though tragic I'm sure this will serve to strengthen their marriage, so in looking at the blessing side of things we can clearly see God's hand in all of this.
Please pray that SIL's dad comes out from surgery in good shape, that the surgeons' eyes and hands are guided by the Holy Spirit, that they can find solutions to the other problems, and that their family can stand strong through it all.
If you could add my parents to your prayers too, I'd appreciate it. These are their lifelong friends and they too are devastated over everything that's happening.
Thanks and God bless.

Stef, God does work in strange ways, doesn't He? I'll be praying for all the family.

Thank you so much for your prayers!
Right now things are looking grim. They performed a bypass surgery and his aorta ruptured, so there was major bleeding. Because the other organs are also compromised they are really worried.
Folks are really sensitive right now and intentions and words are being misunderstood/misconstrued, etc., including my mom's.
Please pray that everyone can continue to support each other emotionally and spiritually and that they will see the good in each other even through this rough time.
Thank you again, I'll post another update when I get one from my brother.

My mom just called. MY SIL's dad died at 4:30 am Philippine time. He didn't wake up from the operation. He was able to make a good Confession and received Anointing of the Sick before he went in for surgery. The family is still in shock but my SIL's mom seems to be handling things well.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Eduardo Nievera and for comfort and peace for his family.
Thank you.
