Our 9 yo ds may have been exposed to pertussis which is currently considered an epidemic in AZ. He is showing the mildest of cold symptoms. Please pray that he just has a cold. Please pray that we can find good care and direction as we wait this out. John Paul is only 8 weeks so I'm feeling...alot.
When it rains, it pours...sigh.
God is Good. His will be done.
Just knowing you are praying helps so much.
Love,

Of course we will pray, Angie. I am so sorry you have this anxiety.
Remember O Most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought you intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of vigins, our mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

Praying! I know you're especially concerned because it is a holiday weekend and doctors are off with their families...may you find peace knowing that you're supported by prayers and friendship.

Angie,
We've been where you are in the past a couple times, so I think I know how you feel. Thankfully our two pertussis tests came out negative. Although the test is not very nice. Has your 9 year old been tested? We'll be praying for negative on the pertussis!
God bless,
Angela

Angie,
I feel for you - that is certainly a concern with a new baby in the house. I'll be praying for you guys.
We had a pertussis worry this spring as well. Two children we have contact with were diagnosed. The one who was on my son's baseball team sounded exactly like my son when he was coughing (and my son's cough lasted for a LONG time). My three children who seemed to have some symptoms were tested and all tests came back negative although I'm not convinced they didn't have it (two of them anyway). I've since heard that there is a specific window of when the test can be done for accurate results (although that isn't what the doctor told us). If it's too early or too late it may show negative. Anyway, in the two families I mentioned, when they got the positive result, the other family members were treated with antibiotics to prevent spreading and no one else in their families got it. One family also contacted a naturopath and used a homeopathic remedy of some sort to reduce the symptoms.
While it is stressed that this is a contagious disease, from what I've seen this spring you really have to be coughed on, drooled on, (contact with those type of fluids) - not just around someone to be at risk. What kind of exposure did your son have?

So sorry to hear of this concern, Angie. How frightening for the entire family. Praying right now!
Katie had pertussis when she was 3 and we were still living in Gilbert, AZ. Her tests had come out negative and the doctors only believed us after we videotaped how awful the nights were for her. Gracie Belle-Oudry had it at the same time. The good news is that Kyle (9 at the time) never did catch it. The rest of us in the family were all put on a strong antibiotic anyway. Do doctors still do that?
Will keep up the prayers. You eat so healthy, and with the breastfeeding, I hope all are spared. Much love and

Angie,
We are praying. How scary for all of you! Why is there such an outbreak happening in AZ? Is the center of disease control helping the doctors out at all?
This is just terrible!
My Mom always use to put some holy water on whatever part of our body was sick. She would then say a prayer with us.
It would really give me much comfort when I didn't feel well.
God bless,
Marybeth

I know just what you are going through, Angie. Friends of ours from church were diagnosed with pertusis around the time my boys began their last cold. Our baby was 6 mos old but not yet completely vaccinated (and still isn't...long story) and with a very weak immune system. For a week I held my breath and prayed. We were spared and I pray you will be too.

Praying.
I've been researching this a little as we've had a persistant night time cough here and pertussis has been diagnosed at our parish.
This site has a lot of info. Pertussis

A joyful update...all is well here at the McIntyre's. We are all recovering from a cold, and only a cold.
When I posted, I held in my heart all of my rational and gut understandings that we were fine, yet I needed strength. Unfortunately, with the well-publicized "epidemic" sensationalized on the news and in the paper, well-intended folks got hyper-vigilent and shared their concerns with me. I'm only 8 weeks post birth for crying out loud...I'm down right vulnerable and weepy so this became unnerving! Normally, I'm better at not "reacting." Will I ever be normal again, LOL?!
Long story short, to be prudent, we went ahead and had the Ped. verify that it wasn't pertussis this past Tues.
Thank you, thank you, for your strength and sanity.
Love,

Angie,
Praise God!! I think it is always better to be cautious and see the doctor. I am sorry you had to go through this. Give John Paul a little kiss from us.
Glad Aiden is well. It is no fun to be sick but especially in the summer.
God bless,
Marybeth
