Hi Ladies,
Please pray for me this week-end as I travel (with my 3 month old) to a wonderful spiritual retreat near Houston run by the priests of Opus Dei. My dh has really insisted that it is time for me to go. I've never left the children before and am a bit anxious but dh has much fun planned and both grandmothers are going to come and help out as needed; I am especially worried about my toddler, Tess. Could you say a prayer that she will not miss Mommy too much? I leave today (Thursday) and return Sunday in time for a nice Mother's Day afternoon reunion! Please know that I will hold all your intentions in my prayers before the Blessed Sacrament!

Jennifer,
I know just how you feel. My best friend tried getting me to go on a retreat for years and years. I kept finding an excuse not to go until my youngest was three. Then dh packed me off.
Believe me, it's a spiritual time for you. And it's all about spending time with God. He has called you.
While on retreat I've heard many, many women lament leaving family for various reason (including major medical issues), but, by retreat's end, they realize that God has called them there. It is His will and desire that they be there. And He takes care of their families. He really does.
Not to scare you but last year when I went to retreat, i left my best friend in charge of taking the girls to Little Flowers. Turns out my youngest had broke her wrist at dance and dh had to take the day off and take her to the doctor instead.
And, you know what, both my best friend and my dh handled things beautifully and didn't miss a beat.
Sometimes, as mothers, we think we must stay in control of things. But, sometimes, as God, He commands our complete attention and blesses us with those who can care for us and those we love.
Going on retreat is indeed a surrender...to God.
Your dh has blessed you. Your mother and mother-in-law have blessed you with their willingness to serve you and yours. And, why do they serve you so willingly? Because they love you. God's mystical love brought to life.
Mother's Day will be a sweeter experience for you on Sunday's homecoming. That love that you have for your family and wear on your sleeve daily will get polished and shined, and your family will see it anew.
Enjoy your weekend and we'll be praying for the dear s you leave at home. Go in peace and joy.

Mary, Paula, Carol, Jane, Melinda and Cay,
Thank you from the bottom of my hearts for your prayers! My retreat was a wonderful time of peace with the Lord. Tess did superbly and little baby AJ and I had some special time cuddling and praying--who could ask for more?
I brought all your intentions before the Blessed Sacrament.
