Well, ladies, DH threw his back out last night--worse than ever---and merely leaning over to scoot our youngest dd away from the edge of her bed....he heard it POP and was in nearly immediate agony. He's been highly medicated ever since. The dds and I drove him up to the on-post dr's this morning, where they did an Xray, started the scheduling process for an MRI, and are trying to hurry thru a referral to Portsmouth Naval in VA....
But DH is on quarters for the next day and a half now (he's off today and tomorrow, at least), and may take more leave time to recuperate. If the referral to Portsmouth comes thru, and soon, he'd have to go up by himself, with someone else driving him (leaving me at home 31+wks along on bedrest with three little people and possibly no car if he can't get someone to drive him up).
Next to nothing got done while he was feeling better (I changed out a toilet seat/cover, and he placed some patio blocks for the girls to use when getting in and out of their pool, so that they don't track mud into the pool/house). My mother (whom I spoke with yesterday before all of this happened) informed me that she and my handyman of a dad may NOT be coming up to help/celebrate the girls' joint bday party next month. We don't have the money to buy most of the thing we need to buy to get things done around here, much less pay someone to do it, at least til the end of the month...
I am so tired. I know that God has it all under His control. But right now, I cannot even go to the church close by, as I cannot take the dc, the church is closed, and DH is so medicated I cannot leave him with the dc....I am glad that I managed to make it to confession and Mass this last weekend...I feel at least as though I am "clean" for now, and will hopefully have the graces to make it thru the next little while...boy do I need them.
I just want to cry...but that won't do anybody any good, and will only end up giving me a headache...which will make me cranky and DH feel even worse....
Please, please pray for me. My SIL in Ca who I thought was going to hop on a plane pronto and come out here, hasn't even called me back since Thurs, so I have NO clue what is going on there.
And there is no one else, really.
Rachel (31w1d, and counting the days to 36wks)

Rachel,
I've been keeping you in my prayers and wish I were closer so that I could give you a hand!
Just a thought, have you tried contacting the women's church group at your parish? Here in Canada, we have an organization called the "Catholic Woman's League" (CWL) which serves in many capacities and I know for a fact that our group would mobilize to help someone in your situation very quickly.
I realize it can be hard to ask; until I joined this group of ladies I never would have thought of approaching them for any kind of help. But, I think it's definitely worth a phone call for you. Give your parish a call and see if there's anything they would be able to do to help you out. I'm guessing that they will be more than happy to.
Praying...

One of the parishes around here has a KoC chapter, and Columbiettes. But nothing CWLish, lol
I wish I had more family closer. We've not really been able to be involved in either of the parishes we attend, one because of distance (and the fact it is a smaller parish means there aren't as many opportunities), and the other because we have one car, and DH usually has it (then add in the bedrest, what do I do with the other dc??? And he's military, so his hours are LOOONG when he's home).
So we've not gotten really involved...I'm just glad that the priests know my name...of course, there aren't that many women like me out there--big as a house, waddling like a penguin, with three small girls toddling/walking along behind/beside...sigh
Thank you for your prayers.
Rachel

Rachel, you've really had a rough time of it, lately...you've got my prayers coming for you and those 2 little men.
Have you thought about asking your pastor to put an announcement in the bulletin, indicating that a fellow parishioner needs help? Our parish in TX used to do this...and the notice would generally give an idea of what help was needed (meals, childcare, driving.)
And I bet the Knights and Columbiettes would be willing to help...you've just got to keep those babies in for a few more weeks!

Rachel,
I found this link to "Mother's Helper" in Fayetteville. They take insurance, but they are also recipients of charitable donations so that they are able to offer some services at no cost or reduced cost. They have a bedrest doula program, where the doula would come in while you are on bedrest and do some light housekeeping, meal prep, vital signs check, etc. They also might be able to get you in contact with other organizations that would do this type of thing for free. Here is the link: http://www.doulanc.com/services.html#bedrest

I'm calling both parishes I attend....one I'm registered at officially, one I live closest to...
BUT I did hear from my mother. She and my dad WILL be coming up that weekend. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, I'll be 34 wks that weekend, so I won't be up for much, lol...
But it's nice to know I'll at least have THAT. Course, I'd really like to NOT have to have my dad help that much...
SIGH

Rachel, you have all been in my prayers throughout these difficulties in your pregnancy and with your dh's back. I do hope that you are able to find some assistance and that you can both get some much needed rest!

SMall update...
I got a phone call from one of the ladies whose DH is a organizer of the Legion of Mary at my regular parish...her DH is probably going to stop by either tonight or some other time this week....which will be nice...
YAY! She and her DH don't live far from me, here in town (most people just have to drive a good long way, but there are few driving from this direction).
Rachel

Oh, but we've had the beginnings of an ant invasion in the kitchen. SIGH. I've figured out sort of where they are coming from, and placed the bait trap accordingly--and they are taking it...it's just going to be hoping that we don't have one of "those" summers where the ants seem to be everywhere indoors, and nowhere outside....
