Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Don and I have been in an astonishing amount of pain since Easter, after eating some unusual (to us) Polish delicacy at the rectory. I am barely functioning today; Don has not been to work all week. Neither of us feels like eating. The kids, mercifully, did not eat the same tasty item, and so are spared, but my house is a nightmare, and I have no urge to cook or clean...much less move much.

At least today I can without too much pain!

Oh MacBeth, how awful! What a suffering. I will pray for you both to make a swift, complete recovery. Do you have access to any acidophilus or bifidus or something for intestinal flora (when you can stomach it) to help fight off those little bad guys?
God bless you both,
Angela

Oh, dear! Praying for you both. Is anyone else in the parish sick?

Our family was the only one invited for brunch. I suspect the native Poles are immune .

We have not tried anything. A friend of ours who is a food science expert suspects it's a mild form of botulism (makes sense from the food item to the symptoms), and I am afraid to try anything that might make things worse, especially anything that might produce much gas as a byproduct. Are these OTC remedies? I might want to keep them in case of need . Thanks for the advice (and prayers), Angela!

Acidopholus is a good bacteria. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that it appears naturally in yogurt. You can, however, take it in the form of a pill.

Don't know about bifidus. Haven't heard of that.

Praying for your quick recovery, MacBeth!

Yikes, MacBeth! Not fun. I'm glad to hear your entire household didn't eat the "treat". Praying you and your dh make a full recovery soon.

Praying for a quick recovery, MacBeth. My dh takes acidopholus after he has a bout with the stomach flu. It restores the bacteria. Like Tina wrote, you can find it in yogurt as well as pill form.

Oh, I am so sorry, MacBeth! I had food poisoning a couple of months ago and don't wish it upon anyone.       It's amazing just how debilitating it can be! I hope that you two recover quickly.

I had food poisoning in high school, and it felt as if someone with a machete was trying to hack his way out of my stomach.

Praying for a speedy recovery, dear friend!
