I just got a call from my 18yods, Matt. He is a freshman at MSU. Friday evening he cut his leg on his bed, not bad (ie. requiring stitches, according to him  ,) but gouged out (sorry to be graphic  .) He did wash it and had been putting antibiotic ointment on it. He called me Sat., and asked whether he should get his tetanus booster, as it was nearing the time he needs it done. I told him, yes, to go in asap.
He just called me, walking back to campus from an Urgent care, 5 miles out. His leg, today, was red, swollen, and there was ... drainage (to put it delicately.) The docs gave him his tetanus booster and a prescription for augmentin. They told him it is either a staph or strep infection. They also said to keep his leg elevated and stay off it.
Please pray that this heals quickly and doesn't get any worse. This is the one thing I hate about him being "away." Not being there to take care of things like this. I am worried.

I will pray, Stacy.
My brother is an amputee and often has staph infections in his stimp and it's a major pain, sometimes requiring hospitalization.
I'm so sorry.

Oh no. DH had to deal with a staph infection last year -- not pretty and not fun. Praying for your son. I'm assuming they taught him how to care for the wound properly? I had to learn how last year when dh had it on his abdomen. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Update-
I just talked to Matt. He said he feels pretty crummy, but not worse. He doesn't think the redness is spreading or that the leg is any more swollen. So, that is good. He needs to show improvement by tomorrow, or he will have to go to the er.
Thank you, everyone, for all of your prayers and concern for Matt and me. I am blessed by you all. 
We are also blessed by Matt's suitemate, who, after getting Matt's call on his trek back to the dorm, ran across campus to where he keeps his car, drove to pick Matt up, took Matt to their dorm, went and filled Matt's prescription, and bought him dinner!
