The news broke this morning but I missed the news. Just got word about this. We lost our Bishop the March before Pope JPII died in April. For a short while we had neither. We haven't had a Bishop since.

The Vatican announced this morning that a new bishop has been named for the Diocese of Lake Charles.
Monsignor Glen John Provost will be ordained as the Diocese's third bishop on April 23rd.
Monsignor Harry Greig, who has been acting as Diocisan Administrator, delivered the announcement to 7 News this morning.
Monsignor Greig, says, "The people of southwest Louisiana have been wondering and asking when are going to get a bishop, and of course today is the day. I'm excited about the future and the continual growth of our diocese. It is time that we have a bishop."
There will be a news conference this morning at 10. We'll have coverage of that later on 7 news.
****
My oldest dd makes her confirmation on May 1st. Perhaps we'll get the "real" thing this time.

Sharing in your joy - we got a new one!!!!
The Vatican on Tuesday named Bishop Kevin Joseph Farrell as the new bishop of Dallas. He replaces Bishop Charles Grahmann, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 last July.
Bishop Farrell, who currently serves as auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese of Washington, D.C., was formally announced at a Tuesday morning news conference.
Blessings ~

Suz,
Isn't it great that we have a new bishop?
Does anyone remember if this was the bishop who blogged his trip to Rome recently? I seem to remember it that way...
And Congrats, Cay, on your new shepherd!

Congratulations Cay!
Our bishop retired this year. We are waiting to receive news of who our new bishop will be. Our last bishop is a good man but was not very orthodox. I hope that our new bishop would be different. So pray for the Diocese of Shreveport...

It has seemed that most of the newer appointments have been very holy and orthodox bishops. It is very hopeful for our Church. I will be praying, Natalia.

I hope this is the case, Mary.
Our last bishop was L-I-B-E-R-A-L and he didn't seem to want to get to know his new flock. I'm sure in his own way he tried, or thought he did but he made derogatory remarks about Cajuns and our culture, he was against any traditional observances, told one priest to quit saying the Rosary before mass in his church, etc.
I'll be praying for the new appointment, Natalia. I know expectations are high and one has to hope and trust the new selection. We had a very good Msgr. during the long wait.
I don't know much about our new bishop-elect except that he's what the locals are calling a "home boy". They say he knows the people and the area. Marcie might know him. He's from Lafayette.
He's a Provost. My dh's grandmother's last name was Provost. Might be some relation.

I'm so happy for you! I'm afraid our bishop is liberal... and our priest is somewhat as well. Very frustrating! I sure hope your bishop turns out to be Orthodox with a real heart for his people!

Finally got a chance to peek at the newspaper tonight.
Front Page Headline:
"Glen John Provost
New LC bishop
Appointment ends nation's longest diocesan vacancy "
Wow! We set a record.

Cay, there is a comment on Amy Welborn's blog that indicates your new bishop is "even-keeled, learned, good priest who preaches well, celebrates the Mass with dignity, and is unflinchingly orthodox" - sounds good to me.

Now the honor of the longest current diocesan vacancy (in US) goes to Birmingham, AL (and Janet). Hopefully that office will be filled soon as well.

Cay, I'm jealous but very happy for you!!!
We've also been without a bishop for our diocese ever since Pope JP II death (well, actually everyone thought our bishops retirement was accepted - and we were without a bishop, then for a short while we found out that JP II was too sick and resignation/retirement wasn't officially promolgated before he died so we had our old bishop again for a short time while Pope Benedict was elected. Now our old bishop is acting as administrator of the diocese - so I guess at least we do have a bishop acting as administrator - but we are still in a sort of limbo). We're still waiting and the word is that we would either hear real soon or it would be a long wait. Guess it will be a longer wait. Our consolation is that we are bound to get someone great with the prayers for a new bishop going on for so long.
Please don't forget us as you rejoice in your new bishop.
Janet

Janet,
I will be praying. You are definitely facing this in the right frame of mind. Our consolation, thus far, is proving very significant.
Our former bishop was given his transfer orders in Jan./Feb. (I forget) and left in March, right before JPII began his journey home. It has been a lengthy wait, but the reward is great.
We even found out yesterday that he is a distant cousin on my dh's father's side. It's a shame PawPaw's mind is too far gone to realize he has a cousin as bishop.
I truly suspect, since we just received our news, that yours will not be long in coming. But let's pray for the one who will be choosen and that he is a saintly man.
Edited to add: MacBeth! where's the list?

So happy for Lake Charles! I was excited to read that both Dallas and Lake Charles had Bishops appointed and thought: "Oh! Good it's getting closer!"
Our Archbishop (Mobile, AL) retired in September, he is acting as administrator still. Many, many prayers are being offered for his retirement to be blessed and for his replacement. I check the Vatican Info Service everyday. I can hardly wait to see who the Holy Spirit guides the Holy Father to appoint for the open sees in Alabama. I hope they are good.
There are so very many empty sees!
