I am posting this here because so many people visit this forum often, but it could go in Living Faith as well.
Catholic News Service writes:
ROME (CNS) -- The Rome diocesan office charged with promoting the sainthood cause of Pope John Paul II continues to distribute the official prayer cards for the cause and the only authorized relics, an office spokeswoman said.
"We receive dozens of requests each day and the distribution continues," she told Catholic News Service Feb. 26.
The relic is a small piece of one of the white cassocks worn by Pope John Paul.
The free cards and relics can be requested by letter, fax or e-mail, she said.
The e-mail address is: Postulazione.GiovanniPaoloII@VicariatusUrbis.org;
the fax number is: (39-06) 6888-6240.
The mailing address is: Postulazione Giovanni Paolo II, Vicariato di Roma, Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano 6A, 00184 Rome, Italy.

Bumping this up. I just read an article in the Catholic Standard, the DC Aachdiocesan paper that mentioned that are flooded with requests, but really don't have the money to send them, so they really recommend sending a donation to cover postage. They do intend on mailing something to everyone who requested, but there are tremendous delays, as they are flooded with requests but not money to cover costs!
I wish I could find the article, but I can't seem to locate it.

The Baltimore Catholic Review had a similar article.

They mentioned that a $5 donation would just about cover postage. This is true; Italian/Vatican postal rates are much higher than ours.
A fun aside...the Franciscan Brother, Chris Gaffrey, who was interviewed for this Catholic Review article, is someone I knew when he was a teen back in Virginia Beach. Dh and I were in the church choir with his mother. Chris became a Knight of Columbus as soon as he turned 18 and headed off to discern his vocation shortly thereafter. What a nice surprise to discover that he's in Rome!

Good to know! I emailed a request Feb. 26, and knew it might take a while to get here... Hmm, I guess we have to snail mail the $5 to Rome??

Oh, I was going to ask Nancy the same thing! The website mentioned in the article has some specifics. Looks like to me the credit card option makes the most sense, but it's a strange form,

There's a thing called an international postal reply coupon; I think you can still buy them at the post office. I'll check tonight when I have more time.
Sending cash will require the office to exchange it for euros.
Maybe you can ask your bank if they do international transfers, but you might end up paying a service charge higher than the $5!
The post account thing is definitely only for Italy (it's the way most people pay bills...by cash at the post office with a little form they fill out, and each recipient has a code). Don't use it.
I'll try to check tonight and see what I can find.

OK...based on my not-so-extensive research...the only way to prepay postage internationally is to go to the post office and buy some International Reply Coupons. They are $1.85 each and you enclose them with your letter so that the recipient can use them instead of stamps. Don't confuse this with an International Money Order; Italy doesn't accept them.
This would be a good alternative for people who don't want to use a credit card to make a small donation.

I did mine by credit card -- gave a 10Euro donation -- which equated to just over $13 and I figure it's the least I could do for JP the Great! I had no problems with the CC and it came thru right away .... even if they don't send anything, just knowing I helped a bit with his cause is pretty cool!

Here's the site for a free will offering to the cause -- if you scroll down, at the bottom is a spot for credit card donations -- and you can send whatever you want I just did 10 euro as a nice round number......

Mary, I sent a donation, but I didn't give them any address or anything. Am I to assume that they will connect my donation with my email request? Like you, I don't mind at all if I don't receive anything in return for my donation, but if there is any way I could make this easier....

About a day (maybe 2) after I sent the money by CC, I got an email from them asking for my snail-mail address -- but they didn't say if they were sending anything .... I'll let you know what happens....

I just saw this. I like to say that I am a living relic  - I met Pope John Paul II in a private audience and he touched my forehead while giving me a blessing!
Seriously, he did give me a rosary, so won't that be a relic? Or to be more precise, if it needs to be something that he actually touched, won't the little plastic case for the rosary be a relic?
