Have you ever seen any Broadway plays? What did you see?

My kids just love musicals and are so excited to think they will be walking down Broadway this summer on our cross-country trip. We are considering a show.

I was just curious to know if anyone out there has seen the REAL thing on Broadway

Thanks!

Over the years, we have seen many shows. Recently, we have seen Beauty and the Beast and Sweeney Todd, with Mary Poppins next on the list.

I've seen Les Miserables twice, once at 13 and once at 22 or 23. Saw a benefit performance of The Odd Couple with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall when I was 13 -- my first Broadway show (a combined 8th-grade graduation and birthday present. I'm from NYC so there was no real travel involved.) Saw The Producers which I did not enjoy. It was on our honeymoon, and I wish we'd seen The Fantasticks off-Broadway instead before it closed. Since you asked about music, we haven't played it as much since our younger son's been listening, but selected songs from the original Fantasticks cast album have been a hit with our now almost-5-year-old boy.

The only one of the Broadway shows I've seen that I think might still be playing there is The Producers and I definitely wouldn't recommend that for a family trip!

Dh and I saw The Music Man on our honeymoon on Broadway -- and it was awesome, but it's not there anymore. Didn't see Les Mis on Broadway, but down here in DC and it was excellent.

YEARS ago I saw both Chorus Line and 42nd Street...loved them both!! Our family is involved with music theater in a homeschool group, as well as seeing lots of community theater and high school productions. Someday I want to take them to NYC to see the real thing!

Next year at our homeschool learning center I'll be teaching a world geography class called "World Geography Via Broadway". We'll be using a variety of musicals to study the various places in the world. I'm looking forward to it!

I saw Phantom of the Opera 5 years ago. I loved it! I plan to take my dc to a show(s) someday, when my youngest is at least four.

Libby just piped up, "Les Mis, Spamalot , Phantom, Jersey Boys..." Don and I saw Cabaret in the "cabaret" setting once, but it's not currently playing anywhere. Telecharge advertises Young Frankenstein as "coming soon". Sounds like fun.

We have seen many, many Broadway plays and musicals over the years (my husband and I met in Theater/Choir and share that love now with our kids), but I have only seen four ON BROADWAY: Miss Saigon (by the Lez Miz team) with my husband; and three when I was in a traveling Summerstock Theater Company in High School and we made it to NYC: The Tap Dance Kid, My One and Only (with Tommy Tune), and I can't remember, I think: it was a revival of 42nd Street.   My weenie sister is spoiled as my mom has taken her to TONS---she has seen Les Miz, Cats, Lion King and Phantom on broadway and others!!!

We also have a great touring program of shows here in Sacto every summer at a circle-in-the-round and a year-long Broadway tour program at our Community Center. But, the problem is $$$$$$$$! Yikes, does live theater cost alot now!   We saw Phantom and Les Miz, Starlight Express, and Carousel with the companies in SF years ago---that was like Broadway.

We also saw an amazing traveling Broadway production of (the musical) The Secret Garden, which I heartily recommend. Love that music.

We also have the great live shows and concerts that are availabe more and more frequently on DVD and collect them for birthdays, etc. There is a good Cats one, there are several Sondheim available (not my favorite, but I do enjoy Into the Woods with Bernadette Peters), and we just got a new South Pacific concert with Reba McIntyre as Nellie Forbush! Pretty darn good. The frenchman, Emile, is amazing---the Bass voice from Prince of Egypt, Brian Stokes Mitchell. He makes me tear up.

Macbeth, check out the new live version of Sweeney Todd with Patti Lupone.

Libby saw it in person, so I should probably take a look! She said the best part were the musicians as actors. Everyone played his own instrument, and she got to meet the cast afterwards--too fun--but not something one can preserve on a DVD !! Thanks for the recommendation!

Let us know when The Phantom is on Broadway and we will promptly book our tickets and flight.

The girls and I know the music by heart, I read the book and essential guide all the way to Florida and back last month, and Chelsea can play "Angel of Music" on the piano.

We're a bit obsessed...

Hmm. None on Broadway, but I have seen these on stage elsewhere: Annie, A Chorus Line, Cats, Les Miz and Phantom of the Opera. Loved them all!

My family and I have recently seen CATS, and an adaptation/ dinner theater production of Footloose and It's a Wonderful Life.

I would love to take them to New York also to see a show...especially around Christmas time. I spent the week there after Christmas in my youth (with a group of acting students from Adelphi University) and will never forget it.
