This has been a long 24 hours at my place. Here are the intentions:
1. Please pray again for my mom. She called today in tears, convinced she's going blind. They go to the doctor again tomorrow. I called my dad and he says the prognosis is still the same (10 - 20% chance she could lose sight in the other eye, but no way to predict if this would actually happen). My mom suffers from a couple of depression-related conditions, so when she is down like this I am always deeply concerned. Mom asked for your prayers.
2. My son's Confirmation teacher is having rotator cuff surgery this week and will miss at least the next class. He asked that you pray for her. (Wow! This is the first time he's asked for prayers for someone.)
3. A friend in the Navy is retiring this summer in order to take vows in a cloistered convent. We're very happy she's discovered this vocation (she gets a lot of flak from fellow Navy folks, as you might guess), but she has a time limit hanging over her head. She really needs to be able to retire this summer to be able to take vows; if she doesn't start the process this year she will be too old. Please pray the Navy processes her paperwork promptly. She also lost a close family member this week (while she was doing all this paperwork) and is now home for the funeral.
4. (Yes, the list is long.) Dh and I were asked last night to consider being named guardians for my godbaby Maggie (the one who had liver cancer) and her two sisters, in case something happens to her parents. While her parents are young, her mom has had deep vein thrombosis clots with her last 2 pregnancies, and so all future pregnancies are high risk, and she is uninsurable. This is a serious decision for us, as we already know dh's sister (who just split up with her husband) has us in mind as guardians for her 3 girls. As dh is still active duty, we need to try to figure out how much of this we could do if we needed to keep moving around. Please pray for us as we consider all of these things (and the possibility of caring for my mom, should her vision fail).
I appreciate all your prayers. Somehow all of these things happened to converge yesterday and today...and I'm grateful that you are all here. (And how nice it is that I got three requests for prayer today! A couple of years ago my mom would not have thought to ask for prayer...nor would ds...this is really a marvelous development in itself.)
I'm praying for all of you, always, whether I find time to post individual replies or not.
Update Friday, March 2:
Mom had a specialist appointment today; the diagnosis is confirmed, although she'll have an MRI to rule out bizarre problems in her head...the left eye is worse than it was when the whole thing started, so she's basically blind in that eye. She thanks all of you for your prayers and good thoughts. (I think it really helps her to know that all of you care enough to pray for her.)
In light of Mom's vision status, we're still praying about godbaby Maggie, guardianship, etc. One great piece of news...Maggie's 6-month cancer checkup was great this week! No signs of cancer (still waiting for the tumor marker test to come back)...liver is almost totally regenerated...other things have improved as well. Her parents are thrilled! Please keep praying for all of us as we try to discern God's will for our futures.
Thanks again for your prayers...I can't tell you how meaningful they are in our lives (but I think you know anyway!).
God bless you all.
Update 3/7:
Mom is having a steroid-like substance injected into her "bad" eye; the risk of further harm is low, and there's a possibility it will help her vision a bit. She has had a few rough days, trying to come to terms with severely diminished vision and potential future blindness, but she is trying hard to keep a positive attitude. Her doctor suggested prayer (she thinks he is Catholic, as he knows Catholic prayers) and that makes Mom feel very confident she's chosen the right doctor.
We all appreciate your continued prayer very, very much.

I'm praying, Nancy. I know what you mean about things converging in one day! What a beautiful witness that they've asked for prayers from this board.
