Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Excluding the book of our gracious hostess here (only because it's likely to be repeated several times!), what would you say are your top five books or resources that have encouraged you in your role as a mother/home-educator?

Oh, I like anything by Mary Reed Newland. A few others...hm. I'll have to go scan the overflowing shelves, lol.

Please Don't Drink the Holy Water by Susie Lloyd (did she have a boy or girl for #6, btw? Never heard)

Abandonment to Divine Providence (I bought the book on cassette first, and then lucked into the book somewhere)--if THAT title doesn't describe Motherhood, I don't know what does, lol. It's not a "mother's book" or a "teacher's book" specifically--it'd be good for anyone. can't remember the author off of the top of my head, but it's old....like 100+ yrs old. Still very valid.

Agnes Penny's two books....

Man, there are alot of them out there. I've not read many Catholic homeschooling books, altho I do like Laura Berquist's stuff. I just don't read and re-read them.

I love Sally Clarkson. She inspires me. I have all of her books and for my birthday, I bought two of her cd sets, The Wholehearted Mother and the Wholehearted Child conferences. Her book Seasons of a Mother's Heart is really refreshing. Her Educating the Wholehearted Child is excellent. Her website is
WholeHeart Ministries

Someone I enjoy listening to from the NACHE conferences is Rachel Watson. She and her husband have done lots of funny, and uplifting talks, especially talks about large families.

I don't have Danielle Bean's books, yet. But I recently started reading her blog and she keeps me laughing!

Hmmm...not counting Real Learning or this forum, just off the cuff (and not in order)...and tomorrow they'd be different:

For housekeeping: Flylady -- recommended to me by JennGM's mom!
For living the liturgical year: JennGM -- whether it be her blog, her K of C stuff, her e-mail reminders, or her Catholic Culture stuff, and the books she gave me for our wedding
For a spiritual lift: In Conversation with God series
For my my kids: I'm enjoying reading Maria Montessori's books
For time management: Stephen Covey stuff and MicheleQ's planners!
