Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was hoping to find a small cross-stitch project relating to Lent. I looked at Holy Needle and didn't see anything particularly pertaining to Lent.

Have you seen anything? I'm visualizing a bible verse about fasting or penance or something along that line? Maybe a smudy cross of ashes?

Offhand, I do not know, but if you write to Gwen at the Holy Needle, she will design something for you.

Do you have an idea what verse you want? I have a design idea and a program that will generate a cross stitch graph. I'll do it for free just send me a picture of the finished design. I'd really like to give it a try. Annie

Neat!

OK, I'm picturing a cross-stitch done on pale lavender aida cloth, with this verse on the left-hand side:

"I will bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes" (Isaiah 61:3)

On the right, a smudgy cross of grey (as if made of ashes) with a golden crown encircling the foot of the cross.

Thanks!

That is a cool idea I am glad you like using the colored cloth that will look nice. I was originally going to center the cross at the top and then make thorn branch corners at the bottom instead of ivy does that make sense? But that was pre-verse and I like your idea with this verse I just freehanded the idea and it looks good. The words in a dark purple and a gold crown? I should have something I can email you in a few days.   Annie

Annie,
I'm interested that you have a program that will generate a cross-stitch graph! Where did you get it?
Thanks,
~Sue (who is only "behind" three birth samplers )

I got the program at Target of all places. It's PM Stitch Creator. Up until this project I've loved it it does a great job of converting pictures. I even have success with freehand drawing but not words?!?!?   I can not get it to text for me....honestly it's probably operator error but the book is packed ....Ugh. So Jenny your design is being drawn out on graph paper as soon as I transfer it one more time so it will be legible and make a good scan I can email it to you. I am so sorry it is taking so long but I think it's turning out pretty good.... Annie

I also have a graph of the Polish Madonna. As for the program we were just shopping at Target and dh is always checking out computer stuff and it was there    How is your husband doing? What a roller coaster for your whole family just think someday this will be the "good old day"

Oh no! It was in my spam folder. LOL! (I have such a love/hate relationship with email!)

It is wonderful, thank you so much for doing this! I'm going to work on it this weekend, and I'm so excited. Wouldn't it be nice to make a few to give to friends and relatives for Lent next year? One of my favorite things about cross-stitch as a hobby is that it is so affordable!

Thanks so much, it was so kind of you to do this for me!
