I know I have adhesions, many from my c-section 3 years ago. An emergency laparascopy last year showed how extensive these were, and the doctor did try to remove some. I had been spending a year back and forth to several doctors to try and find out the cause of my abdominal pains. No one had ever mentioned adhesions. Now I don't want to go back to any doctor if I think it could "just" be adhesions.
But I haven't had much luck in finding information about adhesions. Anyone have reading, links, advice on this?

Jenn, I had adhesions from the c-section of my first child plus possibly my apendix removal when I was a child - it was causing me abdominal pains.
I didn't know what was the cause, it was my chiropractor that identified it and he did some work on my tummy area, alot of pulling and pushing of some sort over a period of a few visits and I haven't had trouble since.

Jenn,
I've had 3 c-sections, the last one in Sept 06 showed extensive adhesions which the doctor worked to remove. I began seeing a chiropractor about 3 months after the baby and she says that she can, through a hand-held electrical device, break up any adhesions that might still be there.

Wow! I wish I had known a chiropractor could help. I had laparascopic surgery two years ago to remove adhesions from my appendectomy a couple of years earlier. I still have pain in the area, and the recovery from the laparoscopy was not quite as easy as my doctor suggested. I would much rather have skipped the whole thing!

Hmmm...I've had 4 csections. I've been having discomfort from what I believe to be adhesions. Maybe I should look into a chiropractor.

Molly, my healing took a long time, too!
I'm excited to hear that chiropractic help might work.
For those that have adhesions...what kinds of pain did you have with your adhesions? How did you know or get the diagnosis? Did it interfere with your intestines? Do you have pain only when you exercise or all the time?

Jenn, I had lots of abdominal pain, felt like cramping.
I didn't know about them until my 3rd c-section when the dr. explained that it would take her awhile to close up because she was cleaning up all the adhesions on my bladder.

Indulge me in another question about adhesions. Has anyone experienced extra pain and cramping in the ovary area (one side for me) the week before and of your period? Would scar tissue in the "right" locations possibly cause this kind of pain?

Yes, most definitely. Forgive me for asking for more details. I had some bad ones that were interfering with my intestines, and they removed most of them. That was a year ago, and I don't want to repeat the insanity of useless testing again. So these new pains have started the last few months, and timing is only like I mentioned. Every month I get useless thoughts like ectopic or something...

I experience pain in the area of the ovaries (kind of pulling for me) during various times, but it gets more frequent and intense during ovulation. I have to try to remember if it happens during before my period. I believe it does. I've had four c sections. When I was pregnant with one of them (I can't remember which), I had some pain in that region and the doctor said it was most likely adhesions.

Jenn, this has been my experience.
I started having pain on the right side a couple of years ago. I had my appendix out in April of 2001, while pregnant with my 5th.
Two years ago, my OB suggested that it could be adhesions. It only occurred with ovulation and during my period. She felt that perhaps the adhesions were wrapped around my ovary and those times of the month caused more of a strain.
I had two ultrasounds which did not reveal any cysts, although one did show what could have been the empty sack of a burst cyst, so we went with the adhesions theory. I had a laparoscopy. The dr found quite a bit of adhesions.
Unfortunately, the pain did not go away. A few months later I was pregnant, and for months the pain was gone. Towards the end of the pregnancy, I had some severe pinching pain in the same spot. The OB I was seeing then thought that it could be scar tissue there. But she did think that I have a recurring ovarian cyst with my cycles.
Now that I have my cycles back, I have the pain back as well.  I don't know what the answer is. If it is cysts, they manage then with BC pills or progesterone. The former isn't an option and the progesterone alone made me very ill. So, unless I find a natural solution, I guess I will just live with it.
Good luck. It is so hard to get a good diagnosis, and even harder to find an acceptable treatment.

Thanks, Molly. I'm sorry you're going through the pain. Mine is sharp at times, but burning and very uncomfortable. But, it seems, I'll just have to live with it.

My pain was very similar to yours, though it was often persistent.
I don't have any definitive answers. I have heard all the theories you mentioned. Last year I had a hysterectomy where they removed my ovaries (that DID have cysts all over them), an enlarged uterus, my appendix and a lot of the lining around the organs in my abdominal cavity. I pain has lessened quite a bit, but I still have it.
Last week I started seeing a natureopath who said she thinks I might have a parasite in my colon and did I ever have pain in my lower right quadrant? So now I am trying this.
Jenn, I am so sorry to say this, but unless you know for sure that it is not your appendix (can't remember what side that is on), I would have it checked. I know, I know, usually there is nothing they can do and it is a collosal hassle for nothing. But...
Adhesions can be very painful and uncomfortable, but what you are reporting sounds to me like it warrants a trip to someone (doctor or natureopath).

Have you had investigative surgery to see where your adhensions are?
My sister who has been infertile since marriage (6years) had this problem (no one knew it until surgery) and in September she had the surgery to see what may be the physical cause of her infertility and they found adhesions all over her ovaries and the adhesions had strapped them back to the cavity wall, which I understand is a primary cause of infertility, these were skillfully removed by the doctor, thus increasing her chances of falling pregnant.
Maybe the pain is related to your infertility as well? Carmen had keyhole day surgery. I had another friend who was told she would never have children and they discovered the same condition and had the adhesions removed and then had 3 children. (so far)

I had most of my adhesions removed 1 year ago. They were extensive, but at the time the doctor didn't think it would have affected my fertilty. Some were on my right ovary, which she tried removing.
I guess on my end I just don't feel like opening that door again unless my pain gets very intense. I might try the chiropractor approach, though. Thanks for all your help and advice.

Michelle, you've gone through so much! I can't believe you're still having some pain. I hope this naturopath can help you.

Appendix was ruled out before...and I keep thinking if the pain becomes constant and kicks up a notch I'll go...
