In Quebec, the government is starting to go after homeschooling families. They want to restraint our rights as much as they can. We will have the obligation of following the provincial program to the letter, including their so called-religious program. It includes exams once a year (bye bye unschooling!), and failure on an exam would mean forced school attendance! It also includes having to choose government approved materials (which is very very secular, to the point of being offensive to everyone but atheists! In fact, it's an atheist program more than a secular program) It includes the possibility of having children taken by force from their home if the above isn't followed.

This is not law yet, but the government has let known its intentions. This is a time for actions (the associations have lawyers working on it already) but also a time for prayers from every praying homeschooling family! Please join your prayers to ours.

Cleo, I am in Ontario, and I have been outraged at the treatment of homeschoolers in Quebec. Fortunately Ontario still has good laws regarding homeschooling, but with the Quebec situation rearing its ugly head, I wonder how much longer before we are also fighting for our rights.

I will be praying and praying for this situation!!!

We're considering moving to Ontario, so you'd better keep your decent conditions!

As I said, the above is not law yet, it will be debated and debated and debated. But so far, this school year, at least one homeschooling association had to intervene in more cases than in the preceding 5 years. And it's not looking better.

That is frightening! For all the "progressiveness" of Canada and many European countries, it is amazing that they go after homeschoolers with such zeal. It seems that so many things are "tolerated" but not homeschooling. Are they really so afraid that people might actually think for themselves if not in government controlled schools?

We will pray for your situation. And count our blessings, as well. I am so grateful to the homeschooling pioneers of the US that have paved the way for us.
