Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds birthday falls on the Wednesday of Holy Week this year, it is his 10th birthday and he is due a birthday party this year. What should I do? Ordinarly we would have the party either on the Wednesday or the next Saturday. Which in this case would be Holy Saturday.
I still intend on having his family (us) party on the Wednesday, but when should I have the party with his friends? Would it be appropriate to have it on the Wednesday or Saturday or should I wait till Easter Monday?

It would probably be fine on Wednesday, but I'd choose Easter Monday. First week of rejoicing, just perfect time for a party.

My father was in the seminary for a time before he decided marriage was his vocation. He said Easter Monday was one of the biggest celebration days...mostly because the Triduum was filled with all the special liturgies. Easter was filled to the brim with celebration, but a lot of "busyness" and liturgy still. Easter Monday was the first day to actually "enjoy" full Personal relaxation and celebration of the Resurrection.

That always sticks in my mind, and I usually plug for dh to be off on Easter Monday, too.

I'd hold it til Easter Monday.

Basically for the same reasons as Jenn posted

Erin, this happened to Grace last year - hers fell on Good Friday!    Needless to say, nothing happened that day but she understood - can't exactly remember what we did celebrate it but it would have been something on a more suitable day.

What about his baptismal day? One of our biggest parties we had was for Angela's All Saints Day dress up party and it was on her baptismal day 1st Nov (it was only 2 days after her birthday so it was sort of like a combinded party really.)

Since you are having the family one on the Wednesday, I'd go ahead and wait till Easter Week for the other party -- lots of people are off school/work then anyway and this could make it even more fun.....

It's tough when it's right in Holy Week -- but a birthday on Spy Wednesday for a boy of 10 could be lots of fun.....
