Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

... about same gender couples? A family member (married)adopting a child had a shower held for her by friends who are a same gender couple - there were to be several similar couples who have adopted there. I ended up not going ( was having contractions way too early ) I was dreading my 10 yo dd daughter asking me "mom how does M have 2 moms." Just not sure how to respond. She still is very sheltered and as far as she is concerned you need a 'mom and dad who are married to have kids'

I've not done so yet (my oldest is only 6.5)....but I may have to--one of DHs sisters is living in a "relationship" of that sort (thank goodness they have not added dc to the mix!). Fortunately, they live in AK....and we are in NC. We see her/them about every, oh, 4-5 yrs. So we shouldn't be up for another 3 yrs or so...

Rachel(who is still very interested in what others have to say)

Pray for help from the Holy Spirit with your words first! I've answered as simply and to their questioning as possible. My goal is to not give more information than the child can handle...because I tend to be a talker, I really try to be careful with my words.

I try to focus on two things. The first is what God intends for families and why. God intends a man to marry a woman. They are to compliment each other. They are to be unitive and procreative. The second is that many people don't know (are confused about) what God intends or they reject what he intends. For this we need to pray for them.

I've found it helpful to ask questions along the way to measure where they are at...What do you think?...Why do you ask?....How do mom and dad compliment each other?...How are some ways you've noticed people being confused about what God wants?...

Tough stuff, Marilyn. Praying all goes smoothly for you and your littles.

Love,

Good advice, Angie!
This has been in the forefront of my mind lately. I know I'll need to address it soon, after all we'll be living in Key West, she's bound to have a few questions eventually.

Thanks Angie. I just want to explain without being over judgemental - but not"open minded" either!!!

I'm following this thread with interest. We have a similar situation we have to occasionally deal with. Should children be keept away from this situation at all costs? What about alienating those who you wish to convert or revert?
