Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted about this painting in another thread

The Children's Story Book

I know Cay knows about a lot of paintings that showcase "reading".......can you share them with us, Cay?

Anyone else have some to share?

A link to view them would be helpful. I have a couple in my schoolroom.

Good day!

Do you have any?

Chari, Alice needs a gold-framed copy of that in her home.

Oh, I hope to find some time this week to share some great finds. I LOVE storybook pictures. For now all I have time to share is this one:

We have the one by William Bouguereau "The Storybook" hanging in the girls' bedroom (click and scroll down a bit and you'll see it). This is what I wrote about it on my blog during the Loveliness Fair:

"This picture (William Bouguereau's The Storybook ) hangs over the girls' day/trundle bed which they share. My four-yr-old thinks it's a painting of her. I'm not one to lie to my children but when a two-yr-old thinks it's a painting of herself and it's such a sweet impression, you just smile and say, "It sure does look like you" as you hang it on the wall. By the time the two-yr-old is four, it's hard to retract.

I can't wait to see what finds everyone turns up.

Ha ha I have a huge "READ" poster of Mihail Baryshnikov holding a copy of Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" hanging in my schoolroom...does that count?

You are funny, Kelly!

Sure, it must count, right?

Well, Baryshnikov is handsome enough to count as art, IMHO anyway!

This painting by Jessie Wilcox-Smith reminded me of JennGM's journey to the beach last summer with her little one. I could just imagine him curling up by Jenn and she setting aside her book beside the sea.

Awww, thank you, Jennifer! It did seem like that...except with lots less clothes . That was the heat wave of the summer and it was hot, hot, hot. We were just looking through our beach pics and remembering very fondly. He took to the beach and sand so well. Like Bridget always says (I think it's Bridget) Water and sand are a mother's gift from God.

To be back again...sigh. We're still hoping to come down your way after Easter, Jennifer. When I know more I'll let you know. We're just going to do a day trip to Disney World, but funny to see Cay's mention pop up today!

Thank you, Jennifer! I could not remember the artist's name!

If you click on Jessie Wilcox-Smith's name on Jennifer's link.......you can see more literature paintings..........I have a couple of them in my schoolroom. They are so sweet.

Thanks for saving me trouble, Jennifer
