Oh, I'm just so frustrated. I didn't think it would be this hard!
I'm working on the Trapp Family Blog. Instead of just uploading the text, I've been scanning the pictures and music, so it's a better reference. I was hoping to have the music so even I could just print it out and make it pages I can set on the piano.
Problem is, they don't display nor print out the way I see them before I upload to WordPress. I can't believe how degenerated they became, and secondly, I can't make it fit to a page. Now I have the graphics, so I can really do it myself here with a graphics tool, but I wanted the graphics to be blog user friendly, too.
These are just black and white scans. I do on the lowest setting, b/w, and make it a bit darker.
Can anyone help me with my insanity? I hate to throw in the towel, but I also don't want this to be a time-sucker that it's becoming!

Anyone? Pretty please? I'm begging!!!!!!!!
Let me rephrase my big question. How can you scan images, upload them to your blog and make them printable, fitting to a page?

I'm not sure Jenn... you would probably have to scan them and save them as Adobe print or something like that and then just have a link to that. I don't know that you could scan and insert the actual picture/document into the blog and have that be printable. I've never done anything like that before.

Oh, you're probably right. Forget the .jpgs, I should go to .pdf. Now that's another question. Can I use free software for that?

Yes you can Jenn. Download Open Office. The command is File-Export as PDF then options from there.
Only thing with Open Office is that since it's open source there are still some bugs to be fixed, and sometimes (mostly when using large graphics) the software locks up. Do you have another graphics software you can use before exporting to Open Office? Use the Optimizer tool (or if you don''t have one, go to help and look up "image optimization"). I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro in case you have it. I'm not an expert but can do a few things.

Sigh of relief! Thanks, Stef. Yes, I use the same software, Jasc Paint Shop Pro. What am I optimizing for?

File - Export - JPEG Optimizer
Also try the GIF Optimizer and compare results.
You may want to try the PNG format too.

I don't know -- do you want people to download the page and see it as clearly as you do? Or do you just want them to have an idea of what the pages look like but you're already providing the information on the blog?
Just in case you need a primer on why, here's a guide.
I still don't understand all of it, but I know enough to set the resolution to "medium" when it comes to the photos I post at blogs. When it was on "high" people were complaining that it took forever to load my pages. Printing is a different matter though, so I'd play with it a bit to see what's best.
-- gotta go take brother to work -- will be back later in case you have any other questions.

Oh no, another thought. When you upload to Wordpress -- do you mean it's on their servers??? 'Cause they might be doing an auto-compression thing, so you're never going to have your pics exactly the way you originally uploaded them. The only site I know where you can upload LARGE picture file sizes for free is Multiply, only thing is when you post to your blog it will have a logo in one corner. But Multiply will allow you to have large file sizes stored, with a limit on the # of files you can upload per month. And I think there may be a time limit on how long they stay the original size -- they may compress it at some point. I'll have to ask my dd about that but she's out of town right now. LMK if you want me to and I'll call her (she doesn't have 'net access at Grandma's)

Stef, Thanks for your help. I'm almost done fixing the hymns in the posts. The Open Offfice made it a breeze to set up .pdf files.
So now, if anyone wants to print out hymns and make a notebook, it will actually work!
