Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The children and I had a blast yesterday taking a twist on narration with Tomie dePaola's book "Pancakes for Breakfast". The book doesn't have any words so I typed as each child (except the baby!) in turn told me privately the details of the story, even I did one. I was surprised that even the older children enjoyed it but everyone was eager to tell the names of the characters and all the details. It was very hard for me to keep a straight face. But the climax was the 2 year old. I don't think I've heard anything so funny as a 2 year old describing the story, of course there wasn't 1 word that mentioned pancakes! Anyway it was alot of fun.

I'm sure it was hilarious! My 4yo is always eager to narrate as he is finally able to talk all he wants without someone interrupting him! His most often said saying is, "Let me tell you something else!"

Pancakes for Breakfast was my oldest son's favorite book as a toddler - we had many a day of pancakes for breakfast. Anyway, I think doing a "narration" this way with a wordless book is a great idea. Glad it went so well and was so enjoyable! So how different or similar were each child's stories? I'd love to hear.

All but the 2 year old had rather similar stories with the olders knowing a bit more about things like making butter and maple syrup. The differences often seemed to be in the stresses they put in, which is hard to type out! They all had different character names. I think my favorite was the churning for making butter when the 2 year old says "Put-teen dat in." "Do-ween it. Do-ween it." "Now cheese! Now cheese!"

It was hard to have too much variation because it's a simple picture book but it would be fun to do more of them. I think I enjoy it more for my own amusement than for any other end!

That is a great way to have them do narration! Sounds like so much fun!
