I saw some time back that you were working towards publishing an undated/improved version of ILL by Erma Serl like you did with Primary Language Lessons and am wondering how that is going so far?
I'm debating purchasing ILL for my 5th/6th grader and would rather purchase a Hillside publication if it's going to be available.
TIA!

Thanks Martha!!
I am working on it but can't promisethat it will be ready for next school year. Please pray for me that I can sort through all the obstacles (primarily financial)and get it done!
Now that you brought up the subject, I'd be interested in what you ladies who use ILL think about a revised version of it. I am keeping all of part 1 and 2 as they are used by MODG users(with small changes). But that last section is not in the syllabi except for the first few lessons.
I'm wondering about the best way to use part 3. Do any of you use it for 6th grade after using parts 1 and 2 for 4th and 5th? I'm toying with the idea of making it a 6th grade text that would lead into Lingua Mater 7. That way I would not have to have a separate text for 6th grade sometime down the road. There would be substantial changes/additions. OR, would it be better to leave it as it is and develop another/different book for 6th grade. (We have one in the works, but it is another year down the road.)
I'd appreciate any input from those who have used it or those who want to use it.
Margot
P.S. Lingua Mater 8 has been sent to the back burner . . . so not available this spring as I had hoped.

Well, I have PLL and LM (Thanks to YOU - thank you!) and I would use ILL as a source for 4, 5, and 6. Specificaly 6th for next year for my 2nd oldest ds.
I don't use and don't plan to ever use MODG.
I can tell you what I like about your PLL over the original and what I like about LM.
I love the COLOR over black and white. (This is a HUGE, as in MAJOR, attraction for me and at least 2 of my very visual dc! Black and white grates on the senses in this house.)
I love the faith additions here and there, but not in a contrived forced manner.
I like how the lessons are very similiar to the original series and what I like about the orginal series is it isn't the same thing day in and day out. There's narration, memorization, dication, creative writing, grammar, poetry, letter writing, and much, much more.
I love how at the very beginning it tells you simply, but in detail, exactly how to do the assignments and what to expect. (For example, dication is to be read entirely ONE time!)
Its lessons are short, simple, accurate, and to the point.
Does that help at all? I hope so.

I think there's a shortage of good material at the 6th grade level and would love to see an updated ILL that is useful for 6th grade. Plus, I'd rather buy one book for 3 years than buy an ILL for 4th and 5th and something else for 6th, before beginning LM in the 7th.
Edited to add: Oh, one more thing. Some of the "conversations" in the current ILL are outdated, imho. I'd like to see them changed to something that kids of today might have more familiarity with.

I am using ILL (original) and PLL (updated) and I really like the PLL update and would encourage the three-part idea for ILL! I was under the impression that LM was intended for 6th and 7th, or did I read that incorrectly somewhere?? I'm anxious (as is my dd-10) to move on to LM for 6th grade. Now I'm wondering if it will be too early, she'll be in "6th" next August.
Thanks for ALL your work Margot, it is SO appreciated

Your welcome!
Originally LM was supposed to be for 6th grade. When I was done writing it and had some families test it, it seemed to be too hard (well mostly the latter parts of the book) for 6th grade. So someone suggested making it possible to do it as a two-year program. CHC wrote it into their middle school plans that way.(the first two units of it in 6th grade and the last two units in 7th grade) It is written for one year at 7th grade, so if you choose to use it for two years, you will have to come up with a second week of activities for each lesson. (One lesson per week in the one year plan, one lessons over two weeks in the two year plan) When my current 7th grader was in 6th, he didn't do well with it, so we set it aside; my 7th grader at that time did great! But 6th graders are having success with it.
Hope that helps a bit!
Thanks for your input on ILL ladies!
Margot

Margot, We are doing the 2 year plan LM with my 6th grader, and we are really loving it. I think we'll get through before the end of 7th grade easy, but that's okay. Just wanted to let you know that it's working very well for my son!
