We finished reading the story of Blessed Imelda Lambertini by Mary Fabyan Windeatt today. Here is Mary Beth's narration.
Blessed Imelda Lamertini
By Mary Elizabeth Sauer
When Imelda was born, the grey-haired blind man, his name was Peter, as soon as he was walking down the sidewalk, instead of going back to his place, he was walking up the palace steps, when all of a sudden, a man shouted, “Hey, you old blind man! Let me get to the palace first!” And then he sat down on the palace steps and waited for the moment to come, that it was safe to make it up the rest of the stairs. And the moment did come. He wanted to say, “Congratulations!”
And so, on the day of her baptism, the priest said, “Her name shall be called ‘Imelda.’”
Then as soon as she was nine years old, she wanted to live at the Dominican convent of Val-di-Pietra.
And so, on Easter, she was so sad that she could not receive Holy Communion. She was just eleven years old. And so then, she asked Jesus to come into her heart, and that she would not tell anyone about their visit. And then, all of a sudden, the Host was floating, up in the air! “Dear, Lord!” said Imelda. She was so happy that she kept on staring. Then the Host came all around the chapel until it floated over her head. Then she began to gaze up at It.
Then the other nuns wondered why Imelda was taking so long to come and eat breakfast. “I think I should go and see what Imelda is doing,” the Prioress said. Then, all of a sudden, some perfume began to fill the air. And as they went nearer the chapel, the smell got stronger. And then, as soon as they flung the door open, there was Imelda, and the Host, floating over her head! Also, the Prioress saw that she was gazing up at It. They went to get the priest, and the priest gave Imelda her first Holy Communion. Then, they let her pray for awhile. Then, when the nun came back, she wanted to get Imelda to come. She said, “Come, Imelda, you have kneeled long enough.” But Imelda did not move. Then she said, “Imelda, look at me!” Still, she didn’t. The child was dead! A few minutes after her first Holy Communion, she died. Then her parents came to see her and to kneel beside her. And then, the grey-haired man, who had seen her on her birth, came. He was walking without his cane! Then, he whispered softly, “I can see!”
The End

She did a great job condensing the story into the key points! I love that book!
