I love how all their applications are integrated with each other. And I use iSight a lot with my family. :)
Cons: You might have a hard time finding Mac compatible applications similar to PC.

Rebecca,
We have had Macs in our family since 1988. I just quickly polled my family, and they all yelled, "There are no cons!"
This is what my crew had to say (dh, who has managed Macs for all the companies he's worked for, and my teens):
Really, there are no viruses to worry about, EXTREMELY easy to use, comes with pre-installed software (making movies, music, pictures, etc), almost impossible to destroy the system - the system is really stable.
Plus they look cool!
We like them!!
LOL Hope this helps!
God bless,
Tami

There are no cons in my book. We bought an iMac last month and I can't imagine ever going back to a PC. I thought is was going to take me a while to get used to it, but it is so intuitive that within half an hour I was totally at ease.
What I love is that you don't have to shut down the computer or reload. It just goes to sleep and the moment you press a key, everything is instantly there. I told this to my PC-using fil. He said that it would mess up his morning routine if he didn't have to wait for his PC to load...it gives him time to eat breakfast!
It was amazing just getting it out of the box and plugging it in.
I can't say enough good things about it.

I've used PC's since 1983 . . . and bought my first MAC this past August. I'll NEVER go back to a PC!
I got a laptop with their wonderful educational discount (offered with NO problems to homeschoolers), plus a free IPOD (their back-to-school educational offer this past summer).
Their licensing agreements are so much more fair -- we now have another MAC for DH and will probably get a 3rd this summer for the kids. I can buy one piece of software, and it can legally be loaded on multiple computers for most of the software. This was one of the reasons we decided to leave PC's behind, because the cost of upgrading our 3 computers for just the operating system was more than 1/2 the cost of a new Macintosh.
They're easy to use, and they come out of the box ready to work. Right now, I'm sitting in my bed, surrounded by sleeping babes, surfing the internet ;)
I LOVE my Mac!! (And, I admit, DH had to talk me into it.)

We are Mac users here since 1990. Oh how I love my iMac! Its name is Ole Fred. I have no complaints at all about him.

I love iPhoto. We've always had macs. Sometimes I get a little frustrated with all the PC stuff you can buy that isn't Mac compatible, but that has gotten better in past years. Dh LOVES his macs

Thanks, I knew you ladies would have some great insight into this topic!
My husband is in need of a new computer and has really been considering making the switch.
He is a talented amateur photographer (hobbyist right now) and is fond of working with Photoshop. Do any of you have anything to say about the benefits of doing this type of thing on a Mac?

My husband has the same hobby and it's one of the reasons we went with the Mac. The new version of Photoshop is coming out this spring and will be available on the Mac. Now we have Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Apple's Apperture. My husband notices a huge difference in his ability to clean up and play with his pictures on the Mac. Also, the Mac always keeps a copy of your raw picture file, so no matter how much you change it, it's always there in the original.

We are Mac users too. I love my IMac. We all love it but my dc complain that some games that their friends play are not available in Mac versions.
I almost feel counter-cultural by using a Mac in a PC world. Good practice for a Christian

I think it CAN be a benefit to NOT have all those games available...no tempting ways to waste time!
We've had macs since 89 and I have forgotten how to use a PC...I love all the reasons listed above and the fact that the mac I'm currently using is about to turn 7 and still works pretty darn well! Dh just got a Macbook this fall and I'm jealous but he promises me that my time will come this spring--can't wait!!
Go for a mac, Rebecca, you WILL not be sorry!!!

We took the plunge about 15 months ago and bought a Mac. NO regrets. I know little about computers other than I had to call my husband (quite savvy with the PC) umpteen times daily for the simplest of operations on the PC. By the end, I kid you not, his response would be something like: unplug, shut the system down, boot up, press this button five times, tap the monitor twice etc. etc. I don't think I've had to call once since we got the Mac. The deciding factor for him was the security factor and having so many programs already loaded onto the computer. For me, absolutely the user-friendliness of it. There is rarely a time that it doesn't do exactly what I want it to. Our only problem thus far is that we have trouble with the system getting overloaded when we use our scanner (not a Mac product) with the computer. It works fine, but searching the internet is often sluggish as is bringing up other programs when the scanner is on. So, we just detach it when we are not using it. Good luck with your decision.

I like to say that I hated Apple until I got a computer science degree. On a technical level it is much much better than a PC. I've been using a Mac for two years now with no regrets. The only big downside is that they're expensive. This is mostly because they refuse to use cheap parts though.

Are they really expensive? Is it becuase they are everything all in one, too?
I'm really thinking of going this route before this computer dies.
