Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sometimes, when I look at my blog stats and see what folks have google searched to find their way to my little blog, I get a little humbled. Some examples are 'Large prayerful family', 'large family living' 'teaching children to pray' 'feminine motherhood', etc...

I wonder if those looking for those things find what they are searching for there, am I giving a realistic view, am I too sugar-coated or to harsh? I just try to be me. It's humbling though, to think those phrases are searched and my meager blog comes up.

Also I suprised at who reads my blog that I know (or know of) from "real" life. The admin assistant for my husbands currant job is a single woman that regularly visits my blog. She has even asked my husband to ask me to post about how I do this and that or think of such and such. Much of my family visits frequently, and some have become defensive about things I have written about. (such as the skirt issue, and I don't think I was at all confrontataion on this topic!)

Does anyone else experience this?

I had never really bothered to look before...

Mine aren't nearly as complimentary as yours...

blank 6 meal printable menu planner
catholic home alter items
baby poems
liturgical year

My site is still pretty boring. I don't have the archive that some of you great ladies have yet.

Search engines are very strange things. People have come to my blog via some bizarre searches, and then I find that I referenced the search term in some list or something. I have also worried about the impression my blog may be giving -- for example I worry about whether my Protestant friends will find it 'too Catholic' and I don't want to have to explain myself every time I mention the rosary or something.

I've been a little bit bashful about telling people about the blog -- especially extended family! It's easier in a way to be honest if you think you're only being read by strangers

Anyway, this is a long and waffly way of saying that I don't think you should worry. Just be yourself.

Martha, I've not been blogging much longer than you, and your blog is NOT boring! I love you no-nonsense style!

Elizabeth, Yeah, I've had some weird searches too (barefoot gypsy children, bare chested turkey hunt )

I'm more reserved about who I tell in the family, my husband on the other hand tells everyone!    I don't like having to feel like I need to write to any audience.

Not at all too sugar-coated and definitely never harsh, Lisa.
I love your blog. It's one of my top ten picks.

This is a fun thread. I just checked my search options and saw these searches:

* Holly Hobbie Spring Fabric (wow! and I don't sew)

* Girls Neckbreak (What in the world is up with THAT! )

* thanksgiving celebration unmarried cabin (I had to go look at this one...seems I mentioned about lemons being given to unmarried women on the St. Joseph Altar)

* more Holly Hobbie

* building cajun homes (yep! I'm the expert)

* there are also several searches for meditation and retreats (I'm going to have to think of writing on that more)

Love the bare chested turkey hunt

These were my recent search terms

*catholic + Hans Augusto Rey
*donor conceived
*free read "full text" "the phantom tollbooth" norton juster
*FlyLady CD

And my favourite
*being cheerful

Makes up for disappointing all those other searchers

Ok, now you all have me curious (or maybe paranoid). How do I check for searches?

Dawn, do you have a sitemeter? If so, click "referrals" and you'll see all the outside links people have clicked that brought them to your site. Some of these are likely to be Google or Yahoo searches. If you hover your mouse over the URL (or click it) you can see what search string the person typed in.

If you do click on it, you'll see how far up the Google or Yahoo list you are for that search, which is also interesting.

My favorite search referral was "homeschooling your obnoxious teenage boy." LOL. I was no help to that poor person!

Today's favorite: "Does homeschooling mess up your chances to get into collage?" (Answer: no, but your spelling might.)

My most common hits:

various Little House related topics

mom planners (cuz I did a series on Lilting House)

Charlotte Mason

Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson (LOL!)

speech banana (an audiological term I wrote about re Steven)

Thanks, Lissa! I'll have to check my Sitemeter more closely. I think I remember once, through my Typepad stats, finding that someone had come to my blog looking for red squirrels.

BTW, I also use BlogLog for keeping an eye on referrals. One thing I like about it is that it shows which links people are clicking IN MY POSTS, which helps me know if a particular subject is really as interesting to people as I thought it might be.

It also gives a daily tally for how many hits you get from an external link. (The free version gives you 3 days' worth of history.) This is handy for seeing how many people clicked over to you from another blog. For example, today I got 19 hits from Danielle Bean. I don't think she linked to me in a post, so that must be blogroll-clickers. Just nice to know.

oh that would be interesting to know.
for example, I really thought that my post about the saint books and feasts would get maybe 3 hits, but it's very popular.

then there's my post on starting to get organized, which has to be THE #1 thing people constantly ask (well after "Are they all yours?!" anyhow), but pretty much died a quiet death.

Now what, pray tell, is so weird about barefoot gypsy children?!?

Actually, I get most of my traffic from Europeans googling gypsy caravans and gypsy customs. They are probably in shock when they find a Catholic homeschooling blog instead!

I haven't told dh's family yet, not too sure that I will and have only just told my family.

To echo Lisbet's experience with the single lady I was pleasantly surprised when my db19 told me he spentan hour on my blog.

I have never seen any of this information for my blog, but you have all got me curious!

Time for a sitemeter, I think. BlogLog sounds interesting too.

A couple more...

"religion in cajun lifestyle"

"How to decorate a cajun christmas"

"cajun's out door bread mud ovens"

And the #1 hit: blacksnake ox-whip

Hmmm ...

"physics wristguards"
"mongolian prize wreath" (huh?)
"patricia petite bookworm" (which was apparently someone looking for p*rn. Yikes!)

What's the difference between sitemeter and the typepad stats?

From my typepad stats, mine look pretty boring this morning:

"conceiving twins"
"activity and curriculum guide to the Journeyman"
"laura ingalls wilder's diabetes"

Did she have diabetes? Now I'll have to find out.
