Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday, my MIL gave me an old missal and some prayer cards from when she and her sisters were young.

The cards are beautiful - not like some of the cards you see today (so beautiful, that I'm thinking of adding to our collection through ebay now). I would like my children to be able to "handle" them, view them, etc, but I would like them to last longer than just through dd 4.5 (who, if I let her would sleep with them in her bed).

How do I preserve the cards, but let her handle them? DS 2.5 will likely handle them, too.

I thought about running them through my Xyron, but my husband suggested they might separate, etc and that it wouldn't necessarily be a good idea.

Okay ladies - I know some of you have extensive collections of cards. What do you use?

Cici,

I don't have a clear answer for you, as I'm working out my plans, too. Right now my holycards are in a big Plastic container.

I've read ideas of using pocket sleeve pages like for baseball card albums. I haven't tried it yet, and am concerned that the pockets aren't tall enough.

I think in the scrapbooking aisle there are similar pocket pages to insert in albums. Even Creative Memories has some pages like that. That would be the route I plan on doing, just need to find the right size.

Jenn,

That's what I was originally thinking, too. But...I had the same concerns as you. I guess, then, I'd just make sure I have a few sleeves that are at least 5x7...

Hmnn.. I was hoping there might be something better out there...

My son's Godparents gave our kids a small photo album a few years ago full of beautiful Holy Cards. They did not fit in perfectly...there was extra space, but the space left room for a small label with the name of the Saint or Blessed Mother's Title or what have you.   We often bring it to Mass for our little ones to look at.

One of the ladies in our homeschool group also has a Catholic goods distributorship. I am pretty certain she carries a holy card storage binder. I will check with her to find out her source for it and get back with you.

We use small photo albums, often available inexpensively at the craft store.

Years ago, my girls collected holy cards in baseball card holder pages, and it worked well also.

We use the small photo albums too. My daughter made me a lovely prayer album a few years ago, with the holy card on one side and a matching prayer on the opposite page. It is perfect for Mass and adoration.

I was at Hobby Lobby today, and they had some small memory albums that looked perfect for some of the larger cards.

My kids do the same thing. The clear, plastic trader card pages keep them safe and well organized.

I've been wondering, where do you buy your holy cards?

We just seem to pick them up here and there, Cheryl. I also have a local store with a full selection of beautiful cards. Whenever we go there, the owner sends me home with a stack of them for the children!

A favorite online source for ornate, old-fashioned looking cards is Trademark Catholic Stationery.

Believe it or not, we actually have an excess of holy cards here. I find it hard to keep up with the storage of them. I think it is because I hold a Catholic girls and boys club in my home, so I am always picking up cards for the kids, sometimes buying a few too many. Also, friends often give me stacks of cards to give away. Back in May, I did a big purge, filling goody bags for the many children who attended our May Crowning. It felt good to know the cards were going to appreciative homes.

Small photo albums work great, especially if you have little ones who like to leaf through pages at Holy Mass. Baseball trading card pages work well too. We recently rediscovered our adult son's holy card collection from 15 years ago and the cards were in wonderful condition, after being stored for several years in a binder inside his memory box.

We also have a large wooden box, (originally intended as an oversize recipe box), which is 7 in. x 8.5 in. x 5 in. deep...it has a slot on the top of the lid where a recipe card could be displayed while in use, which we use to display holy cards and religious postcards...we rotate the cards according to the feast or season. A photo box would work well and children enjoy thumbing through the lovely cards. It's nice when you want to gift someone with a holy card if you have extra ones stored in such a handy location.

We have a family prayer binder, where we keep prayers we print off from online, and various extra prayers we can't find in prayerbooks. It's nice to keep holy cards that go with the prayers for particular feasts or intentions.

Another idea is to tuck holy cards for particular saints in the pages of your favorite saint book....it's extra special to find the holy image when you go to read about that saint.

We love Trademark Catholic Stationery!
