Does anyone have any recipes for someone suffering from irritable bowel syndrome? At least, I think that's what's bothering my dd. Her stomach is constantly hurting. I went to the health food store today and bought some supplements, but she has always had a hard time swallowing pills, and these things are huge. I bought a "complete body cleanser", some Essential Fatty acids, and Probiotics, but I'm not sure how she'll be able to take them without gagging.
How about herbs? She won't drink tea. I appreciate any help. Thanks so much.
God bless.

You should be able to find herb tinctures in liquid form with a dropper. I would definitely stop all dairy and start with the probiotics. I have had so much success and you can get liquid acidopholus and other cultures (sour like a liquid yogurt). Do some checking on the Complete Body Cleanser because you don't want to get rid of those good bacteria as the probiotics build them up. There are many moms here who know much more; I'm sure they'll weigh in
O.K. I just had to edit something out because I thought Ruth had written that her dd was 17 (Ruth can't possibly have a 17 yo by the looks of her)...now I'm worried I'm having hallucinations!

Gwen, you are too funny. We got married right after I turned 19. What were my parents thinking?
She's also lactose intolerant, so she doesn't have any dairy in her diet. Now I'm nervous about the Complete Body Cleanser. I won't have her take it until I get some more advice on it. I'm really trying to avoid going to the doctor. I've been praying for a few months about it.
I didn't think about herb tinctures. I read she needs to drink peppermint tea. I'll look for a peppermint tincture for her. Thanks for your advice. It helped a lot.
God bless.

Chamomile is good for some IBS (I have IBS-D, sometimes quite badly... ) You can get that in capsules if she won't drink tea, but the tea is soothing.
The supplements already mentioned are good ( you can get Enzymatic Therapy Acidophilus Pearls and they are teeny-tiny and easy to swallow.)
I am super, super sensitive to all meds and herbs, and so I usually take children's formulas. I have used the Herbs for Kidsbrand for myself and my children, with good results.
My IBS often starts with nerves/tension, so when I address that I can get relief also.
HTH,

I've had IBS since age 14. I've so far never found anything that works.
The only relief I ever get is from pregnancy! For most of the pregnancy I feel quite normal.
I did have a brief time of about 6 months when I was postpartum of relief from the symptoms. I attribute it to getting a tremendous amount of sleep. Which may sound odd...but it was with my first child who loved to nap/nurse for about 4 hours a day. (Wow, I know!)

Hi Ruth!
I'm kind of going through a similar situation with myself. I had a dr pretty much throw his arms in the air and said "I guess its just IBS" when nothing else came back positive. Then I went to a chiropractor who also practices homeopathic medicine. Turns out I have a slew of food allergies and four types of strep in my intestines. Now all those stomach problems make a little more sense! Are you in NOVA? If so, there are a few different homeopathic dr's around here that I have heard are great that I can tell you about. I'll pray for your daughter. Its not fun!
God bless,
Anne

I haven't taken her in yet, but my dh went in and was diagnosed with IBS and my 10dd was told the same a month ago. I'm assuming that's what it is.
We're down in King George Co., but my OB is in NOVA. I would be willing to travel up there. It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive for me. I'd love to hear about the drs. up there.
I will keep you in my prayers as well.
God bless.

Ruth,
It just occurred to me after answering one of Marilyn's questions on a different thread that my IBS is helped a great deal with regular exercise.
I had forgotten this fact because I haven't exercised in a very long time! But it helps a great deal. We are looking very much forward to getting a little more regulated with good diet and exercise this coming new year. The time is finally right with my dd1 and the older kids and the fact that I'm not pregnant! (yet! )

Ruth,
I was diagnosed with this a few years back. Then I went to a naturopath and found out that I had wheat, oats and dairy intolerances. When I cut these things out, or at least cut back, I stopped the pain and irritability. When I do eat oatmeal or Kashi for breakfast occasionally, or eat a lot of dairy, I get the symptoms back.
So, you might want to try an elimination diet. If that doesn't work, see a naturopath or a chiropractor that does the allergy elimination testing.
God bless!

Thanks, Molly. Wow! I never knew that about you. She just started having these symptoms 6 months ago. She was diagnosed with Lactose intolerance 3 years ago, so she's really been suffering for a while. I'll try the elimination diet. We're going shopping for IBS friendly food later on today.
Have a great day. God bless.
