I'm wondering what size chairs your smaller children sit in for eating/school?
We school at the dining room table, the only table we have. We have 5 Eurochairs from One Step Ahead which have a seat height of about 20" and a footrest. Sadly, 2 have fallen apart and even our biggest are not big enough to sit correctly in a dining chair to eat or do school. The bar stools I've found are all too tall. Do you have any ideas, or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy 2 more?

Our table is island/countertop height - 36". We have stools on 3 sides and I found a huge wooden trunk that we use as a bench on the other side. My dd7, ds4 and 2yo niece all sit on the bench together. It is 25" deep, so I have no worries about them falling off. I would if they sat on the stools!

They are way too much money and i have to say that the one we have was a gift but the only chair my littles sit on comfortably at the table in with out falling off is our kinderzeat by stokke.
I know they just "upgraded" to the tripp trapp and the kinderzeats are a little bit cheaper but they are still to pricey. We gave dd's to her little brother last year when she thought she wanted a "big" chair and she is miserable (she is also not a very big 5 yrold)
We are hoping to save up some christmas money and some tax money and get another one as they are always fighitng over it. My mom who is 4'9" also loves it
Like i said they are very pricey- not something we would usually buy but im tired of black eyes and goose eggs! I considered getting a big bench but they would spend all their time elbowing each other!
i keep hoping to find one on ebay or at the resale shop.
There is always dd's solution too. for about 6 months before we got her chair she stood on a short foot stool "pilgrim" style as she called it. She was much happier no falls or falling asleep legs- though it weirded out thhe ocasional visitor. she began announcing to dinner guests "i PREFER standing thank you!"

We have some chairs from IKEA. I do not recall the name but they look just like the wooden adult kitchen chairs but they are taller with a smaller seat and an extra rung for their feet. They are in the section with kitchen chairs -- not the kid furniture area. I do not recall their price but maybe $20 or 30 a piece?

We have the same chair for my 3yo dd. I saw them at Elizabeth's house a few years ago and thought it was the perfect answer to our crowded table. Everyone else sits on normal kitchen/dining room/desk chairs for eating or schoolwork.

If you know any military folks traveling or stationed overseas, you can get Tripp Trapp chairs much cheaper over there. My dh spent most of his leisure time on his last trip to England...you guessed it...shopping for Tripp Trapps with his fellow traveler, who wanted to bring one home! (They did save a lot of money...it did fit into baggage, too.)
I don't know if you could have someone mail one to you...I would have to check on the dimensions.
PM me if you want the details!

We've got Tripp Trapps. Fantastic chairs. You can use them from baby to adult and they are really adjustable to encourage good, comfortable posture all the way.
Our dc aren't paragons by any means but lots of people comment on how well they sit at the table. I'm sure it's to do with sitting at the table with the rest of us from the word go, and being comfortable.
If you can manage to get hold of them in the US, go for it. They are pricey, but considering that you'll be using them until your dc leave home (and then they can go back to being baby chairs for the grandchildren!).

I see that our Euro Chairs are a knock off of the Tripp Trapp chairs. Ours cost about half as much (and last half as long?). As I could not convince Bill to take an Air Force flight to Europe (I keep trying), I ended up fighting traffic down to IKEA yesterday and found Agam chairs which were only available in black, but they were in the store. Yours would actually match my other chairs, Elizabeth, but I didn't see them.
Thanks for the cool ideas everyone! I think pilgrimstyle dining might get introduced when Cecilia gets to that age where kids sort of just fall out of their chairs for no reason.
