I just read this thread that confirmed that I'm not losing my mind.

Yesterday I went to the Hanna Andersson outlet store and found several larger knit play dresses size 130-140-150 for $10!!!!! My 5 1/2 year old daughter is by no means a 130, but I thought for next year, etc. (Plus I have 3 other girls coming through the clothing line-up). I bought 2 in each size.

Once I got home, I compared them (size 130) to the Lands End dress (size 7) and it is almost 5 INCHES SHORTER! Why are these dresses so short? Do your older girls wear tights with them? Or leggings? I LOVE these LE and Hanna knit dresses and love Hanna cotton, but I'm wondering if these are going to be too short for my somewhat tall/skinny girls. Maybe the older girls don't like these and that's why they are ON CLEARANCE The picture on the website looks cute and they are wearing leggings, but I'm TRYING to discourage the "above-knee" thing.

I try not to buy clothes for years in advance, but $10 for knit play dresses was so great.....I couldn't resist. Maybe I shouldn't keep them??

Just looking for any feedback about this. And, for someone to tell me to stop obsessing about $10 dresses!!!!!

that's a playdress that's really meant to be with the leggings. it's not a dress alone so you really need have the leggings. if they don't appeal to you, you can always ebay them. they often go for far more than $10.

My 140 sized daughter still likes these dresses but the leggings are key, lengthwise.

What a great buy! Yes, the leggings are crucial.

Wow, what a bargain! I would be so happy to have a Hanna Andersson outlet near me!!!! Like you, Hanna is a worthwhile purchase, because I always have six girls in line for the dresses as they are passed down.

Play dress its a daydress is meant to be worn with matching leggings. Still, they are well worth buying without the leggings because you can always add plain black leggings later when you need them.

You were smart to buy so many!

I think the "play dresses" are really meant to be more like long tops that actual dresses and that's why they always show them with leggings.

The good news is that playdresses can last a LONG time because they can be worn long in the beginning and much shorter as your dd grows.

Just peeking in the thread because I wanted to see your adorable girls, Bridget. My nieces wear the Hanna dresses and leggings and they are so cute.

Yesterday dh, ds, and I did marathon shopping to finish up. We went to a mall we rarely frequent, in fact it's been years, but I was looking forward to looking at the Hanna Andersson clothes in person. I was disappointed it only had the kids' clothes, but just touching all the cotton is a sensory treat! Just so soft and beautiful.

I just bought my girls' Christmas dresses from Hanna Andersson. They arrived last week and the link is perfect (mid-calf). I've never bought their play dresses, so that's good to know about the length/tights issue. I ordered all of my girls knit dresses from Land's End this season and the length was wonderful. I'm just happy that they're selling them in the bigger sizes again.

How funny, Alice! Why am I not surprised?

We should do a cross-linked blog post...lots of little girls strolling in red snowflake dresses, holding hands.

Nope. Not those. We did those three years ago and I was so disappointed that the red ran into the white when I washed. They took them back, said it had been a problem. I think maybe they've fixed it, but be sure to wash carefully. We're wearing these in pink to Mass with the snowflake tights and these with leggings on Christmas day.

Those are so adorable, Elizabeth.

Thanks for the heads-up on the washing of the dresses. I wonder if I should just have them dry cleaned.

We had the same problem with hot pink Hanna Andersson BATHING SUITS about five years ago. I was so embarrassed when my sister in law, wearing white pants, picked up Marie after she'd been wading in the pool, and had a huge pink ring down the front of her lap. The same thing happened again this year with Marie's pink Land's End bathing suit. I am amazed that the fabric for swimsuits isn't more color fast.

The older girls will be wearing Fur Collar Cardigans with black Light the Candles skirts. (Agnes is taller than me, so she will be wearing the longer women's style shown in the picture.)

And here is Patrick's boy's sweater.

[At the end of the day, these cost a small fortune, but the girls will be singing a quartet of Away in a Manger during Communion, so they needed to look extra special!]

They are going to look adorable, Alice. My little boy is going to match his sisters in this sweater. I think it may be the last year I can dress them completely identical. My oldest dd will need the women's styles next year too. She's almost as tall as me (Though being Italian, that's not saying much! )

Thanks for the feedback, (and photo!) That helps. These are just different style dresses than the Lands End dresses...shorter, so leggings needed. I'll just watch for leggings to match (in a perfect world), or black looks good with anything.

No more buyer's remorse....you have all put my mind at ease. I can tell dh (when he rolls his eyes at me... Donna Marie) that you all said these were a GREAT DEAL!
