Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Many months ago, after having our last baby, dh and I decided to leave future "family planning" up to God. We had never really fully understood the concept before then.

Well, that was easy enough then, when I knew I had months of breastfeeding amenorrhea ahead of me. Here we are 18 months later and the steady hormonal bliss of that time has just ended (just ask my husband, lol, I've been crying all week for no good reason - gotta love PMS!) I am now "officially fertile" (well, as fertile as I've ever been, which is kind of halvsies, lol )

I would so appreciate your prayers that I can truly remain open in body, mind, and spirit to what God wants from us. I am too aware of what is going on in my body and am afraid I'm going to manipulate circumstances too much to give me more time before the next pregnancy. I am also all too aware of the feelings of my family, my town, the all too rude strangers I seem to attract on a daily basis and this people pleaser has a very hard time *choosing* to take the high road.

I am excited and terrified at the same time. Thank you so much for any small prayer you offer on our behalf.

I will certainly be praying for you, Amy. May God bless you for your faithfulness and witness, even in the midst of persecution---it really does feel like persecution sometimes, especially when it comes from those we love.

My advice is to hang out with the ladies here as much as possible. I always find that their beautiful examples and wisdom make the high road seem normal and attainable, even for me.

Should I send chocolate?

Dear Amy,
God knows your heart. He knows your weaknesses and fears. It is only natural to look at the return of fertility with some trepidation. We are only 8 months post-partum here with baby #7, and trepidation might be too mild a word! We, too, decided before this last baby to completely leave it in God's hands. Really, we had been open all along. But as you say, there were certainly times we "manipulated" circumstances before we really let go of trying to have control.

My sixth child was (is) a handful. I really didn't want another child until she was MUCH older. But I couldn't find peace in trying to use NFP. For me, I couldn't be sure we were doing God's Will. When we turned it over to Him, I still prayed that He would not send us a baby until we were good and ready. And you know what, He listened.

I didn't get pregnant until #6 was turning 2! With the other kids, by the time they were two there was already another baby. It was still a hard pregnancy and I was not convinced I could handle it all. But I felt comfort in knowing that it was God's Will.

So, long story short, pray, pray, pray.

And as far as the outside comments, they will eventually just label you crazy and leave you alone! When I showed up for a family wedding with an almost 2 yr old and not pregnant, noone could believe it. I think they were kind of disappointed!

Praying, I know in this culture it is so hard in this regard with large families. The people at church love telling my Mom and Dad they are pregnant b/c they react so lovingly to all the news. They had some negative reactions when my younger brother was born.

What a sad society when a baby is not met with happiness and love.....

Hi Amy,

I will certainly pray for you.      I just jumped back into that same boat last month myself.

My dh waffles all the time - no more, well maybe one more, NO more, WELL the boys need another brother, no more, IF we had another girl what do you think of the name Marisol? He drives me batty.

BTW, after #5 people are just so shocked by the number they rarely come up with rude comments. They just stand there with their mouths open and their eyes popping out.

Blessings,
Krisann

Amy, I certainly will be praying. What a beautiful testimony to life you and your family are.

Tony and I pray for a large family one day.      We have always left it in the hands of Our Lord. We are always overjoyed and eager to welcome another child. The ONLY thing that stresses us is telling family, and the comments from many of those around us. Isn't that sad?

Praying for you, Amy. I am now officially in the same boat , so I know what you mean. I had an early return to fertility after the babies, so we were practicing NFP for a while to give me time to heal from the C-section. But then the babies turned 1, and "grave and serious" seemed not to cover us anymore. So... feeling fairly terrified here as well!

We seem to have had a run of encountering some very nice people lately who have only enjoyed seeing us with our large family. It seems like God puts them in my way when I most need encouragement, so I will pray the same for you!
