Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I received an email a few days ago claiming to be from Paypal which informed me that some of my updated account info was incorrect. I followed the link in the email and was taken to a screen (that looked exactly like Paypal's site) which was full of empty fields waiting for me to enter all of my personal and financial info.

I started to type and then all of a sudden had a gut feeling that something just wasn't right (Thank you Guardian Angel, you saved me yet again!) I shut the browser and logged into Paypal's site and there were no such messages on my account.

I reported it to Paypal and heard back from them tonight. It was a hoax and they warned me that it's happening a lot. So if you get a similar message, report it to Paypal and don't follow the links. Unfortunately when I opened the phoney browser I entered my Paypal Username and Password. But fortunately I changed it before the hackers had a chance to drain out my account.

But it was a close call!

There is a similar one using eBay's "look" as well.

Yes, there are many of these "fishing" emails out there. Be careful! We receive them from "banks" as well.

Yes, I've had them several times before, and always report them and delete them.

I just had an illegitimate email saying it was from my cable company as well, and reported it to them, and they said yes it was a hoax, and it was good that I report it, and they're aware of it, etc.

No company will ask for your personal information through email like that. You have to come to them. Ugh! These crooks can drive you batty!

I was taken by one of these once. Supposedly from Verizon. They got me for about 500 bucks before we figured it out. Ouch!

I've received several of these types of emails. NEVER click on the links in the emails. Go to the website directly through your browser, and check on your account. If there is any action that needs to be taken by you, the info will be on the account page.
If it's a legit communication from a website you use, like ebay or PayPal, your account page will have the info.

Pretty scary stuff, though.
