Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've searched, I'm tired, I've about had it up to my forehead. So I must ask: How in the blue blazes does one post pictures on her blog? Every time I try to post a picture it gives me this clock thingy that goes 'round and 'round for what seems like hours (OK, possibly minutes). Is the camera we used too high tech or something? Help!?!??!

Tina, do you have dial up or DSL? It sounds like your connection is too slow to upload pictures.

When I started blogging, my husband warned me to keep the size of the photos to a minimum. Consequently I always open up my images in Photoshop and save them as a low-resolution file.

I notice, though, that some of you moms have absolutely beautiful, crystal-clear images on your blogs. Katherine in Texas--your photos come to mind as just one of many examples.

Perhaps the rest of you would have advice for Tina.

Blessings,

Margaret

Oh, and I do have a question regarding this forum.

How does get an image under her name at the side of her posts? For example, Bridget, you have an image of Our Lady.

Or how about a ready-made signature with the ages of one's childrens, blog address, etc.?

I have to type mine in every time, but I am certain there's a better, faster way.

Margaret

I reduce the image size in Photoshop and then "Save for Web". I save the image as a JPEG at about 70%/80% resolution. Typically, the rule of thumb for photos on websites is that you don't want them to be much more than 30K, as they take longer to load if someone is viewing your site with dial up. With my blog, I usually save them at about 60K. If you are using blogger, it is a little sporadic sometimes about uploading photos properly. When I cannot upload a photo into my current post, I have found that it usually works to Create a New Post (after saving the post that you are working on as a draft) and upload the photo into the new post. Then I copy the html for the photo and paste it into the post on which I had been working. This week, I have not had any trouble uploading photos to blogger.

Margaret, if your questions have not been answered by this afternoon, I will answer them then. We need to get ready for First Saturday Mass.

I have a few minutes before we leave. I forgot to mention that photos can be loaded at larger sizes, but the problem comes when someone clicks on the photo to see it at a larger size (with blogger the only problem is loading time for those with dial up). For those using typepad, if the image size is not reduced, then craft photos are often cut, when clicked on, so the viewer can't see all the detail (at least this is true with the newest version of IE).

Margaret,
Look to the upper right hand corner of your screen now. You want to click the "settings" button. Then, click "edit profile." From there, you can add an avatar (the picture) and you can make or change your signature.

I have tried to edit my profile doing the same thing Elizabeth recommended, but there are no options for adding Avatar or signatures, not even for entering your location. Could there be a problem with the member control panel?

It worked! Thank you, Elizabeth!

Paula: when I went to "edit profile" I had all the options that Elizabeth speaks of, although when I tried a month ago these options weren't there.

Paula,
Someone mentioned that you need to have a minimum number of posts to have this option available. Maybe it's five and your most recent post would put you at that level. Otherwise post a few more! MArgaret obviously could do it at 15.

Somehow I managed, just by cropping a picture, to put it in my blog. But I still can't get anything small enough to change my avatar. I'm getting just a bit tired of the duck.

I tried to save my image at 6.5% and it still showed the size to be 972 x 746 pixels. I didn't try Save for the Web, didn't see that option. Then I tried to save my image at 6.5% again and Photoshop won't let me click on OK, only Cancel. Help?

Tina, You are using blogspot, no? The uploading with my DSL connection does take a couple of minutes per photo. Just click upload and go get a snack. Really, it does upload or, at the very least, it will tell you at some point that it couldn't do it. It took me awhile to accept that there was something happening during that time.
