Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was wondering if any of you had your children attend school for a season of your lives? We have a lovely small, very conservative, Catholic School close to us (started by homeschoolers, as a matter of fact). We have had significant family issues including the illness of my mom, care of an elderly grandfather (we are all he has, literally), and other health issues. It just seems that to have help with the academics just for now would relieve some of the stress (yes, we have scaled down, but almost to the point of non-existence--which is not good). Also--I feel my oldest (10 yrs) and next (6 yrs) do not get the attention for school they need, nor do all of the little people (4,2,1 & maybe smaller ones on the way)! Not necessarily due to the volume of littles, but that combined with our circumstances have caused me to contemplate & look into this option. Has anyone done this? How did it work out? I would most likely plan to h/s in the fall again.

Thank you all and God Bless! Joelle

Yes - my dh had two strokes - one right after the other (4 years ago) It happened in August right before I was going to buy our curriculum for the year. Since they thought he was going to die and he did not - God is good - he did have to have physical and occupational therapy and we did not know how long his recovery would be we decided I needed to help him and I could not homeschool. We ended up keeping them in school for 2 1/2 years. We had to move to Florida because 6 months after his strokes he lost his job and then we lost our house. I had to start to work an worked waitressing on weekends - in florida- for almost 2 years. They would beg to come home and it was hard, but we all managed and then last year we were able to begin homeschooling again. It is ok if you have to do things or have a season where you have to stop homeschooling. sometimes God puts those things in our paths to help us so we can grow in other areas as well. It was a hard time but the kids really appreciated homeschooling all the more because of seeing what they were missing.
