After reading Maria's thoughtful idea of an ornament drive for Donna, I thought it might be fun to have an ornament exchange for all of us. I would love to send a special ornament to a 4Real friend and would be thrilled to place one on my tree. Would anyone else be interested?
I'd be happy to organize it---because you know I have nothing else to do at this time of year ---and it would be a small way for me to give something back to this community, which is always giving so much to me. Logistical planning is one of the few things I can offer here.
If you want to participate, just send me an email (welovejmj AT skynet DOT be) by this Friday, Dec 1 with your name and address. You can also pm me. I will match the names over the weekend and send out the info by Monday, Dec 4. If we all try to mail the ornaments by Thursday, Dec 14, they should arrive in plenty of time...and if not, remember that Christmas lasts for 12 days.
Maybe I can host a mini-carnival so we can share our gifts with each other....perhaps on the Epiphany...just thinking outloud now. Of course, a real life Christmas tea at Alice's would be so much better, but I suppose we have to take what we can get.
Should I pair names so that you send to the person you receive from or just randomly match them? Let me know if you have an opinion on this, and I will let the majority rule. In case you are worried that you might get stuck with my name and have to pay for shipping to Belgium, I do have an APO address. If there are any other overseas participants who don't have APO, I'll exchange their names with each other. If you don't mind shipping overseas, let me know.
Also, I want to reassure you that I will not send your address to someone I don't recognize from their participation on this forum. If I receive an unfamiliar name, I'll go to the moderators for their guidance. I don't want to discourage newcomers from participating, but I do want to protect everyone's personal info.
One last thing....I think we should continue our theme of Elegant Simplicity here. The ornaments shouldn't be expensive, but thoughtful and sent from the heart.
Okay, now that I've typed all of this out, I'm wondering...am I way off base here? Is this a good idea or just one more way to add stress to our already busy Advents? I'm hoping it can be a blessing to us, a little gift to ourselves as well as each other.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas for making this work.

I can't access the link, Jenn. Maybe it's for moderators only? I'd love to hear Mary's idea. I would have loved to hear it even more before typing out my post. Will be waiting to hear...

Diane --
definitely a case of great minds thinking alike ! I too had this idea but posted the suggestion on the moderator's site; but I'm all for this!
I would love to participate. I like your idea of elegant simplicity. I would also suggest handmade (either with your kids or without ) simple ornaments. I'll be knitting mine!
I also like the idea of pairing the folks, but having a "mystery" sender is fun too.
AND, you're willing to host a carnival after to share -- I love this idea too! Maybe we can make this an annual event so in a few years we'll have a few 4Real ornaments!
Just lovely, Diane. THANKS!

Great idea. I'd love to do this. We collect nativity ornaments for our tree wherever we go.

Just a reminder---in case you missed this thread---I will be matching names this weekend for our 4Real Ornament Exchange. If you would like to participate, please send me a pm with your name and address by Saturday night (Dec 4).
So far I have 20 names. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm, ladies!
It would be great to have even more join us.

This is a final reminder to send me your name and address tonight if you want to be included in our 4Real ornament exchange.
I just want to make sure that everyone who wants to participate gets the chance. I'll be matching names tomorrow.
Have a great Saturday night! I'm off to bed...
