Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Friends!

I just had to share this with some homeschooling friends who may understand.

The other day, we were at the library, and my 11yo daughter said to me, *I'm not reading American Girl books anymore*. I was looking for other books, and by the time I was done, forgot to ask her why.

Yesterday at Borders, while perusing books, she mentioned it again to me when we saw some AG books on the shelf, and so I took the opportunity to be sure to listen, and prod as to why she isn't reading them anymore. She said, *Because they aren't well written*.

I stopped to reflect a bit. Now, I haven't read them, so I really don't know how well written they are, I just know she's loved American Girl dolls, and the whole history thing, etc., and so we allowed her to read the entire series, plus some of the spinoff (American Girl History, etc.) series as well. She's probably read almost every single AG book there is anyway by now, and some many times over.

I know she's 11, and beginning to grow up, and so this would be normal, but what made me SO full of joy when hearing what she said, is that she's really beginning to appreciate GOOD literature. She is our voracious reader. She LOVES reading so many books, and her favorite author to this point has been Gail Carson Levine, and her favorite book, *The Two Princesses of Bamarre.*

She's been reading more books like Little Women (again), and she's reading CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia, and is beginning Redwall by Brian Jacques. We're doing The Prairie Primer, and reading those books for the first time (magical for us). She LOVES Shakespeare, and has read our Shakespeare stories book over and over again. I just picked up a Dover Thrift book from Charles and Mary Lamb is it with The Tales of Shakespeare (is that good?) for $2.50 yesterday at the store while shopping. I've heard it mentioned before in the homeschool lists, etc.

And she reads books over and over and over again. I keep encouraging her to read more new books (though she reads new all the time too), sometimes reading 5-7 books at one time! I'm beginning to think that reading and re-reading books over and over again isn't a bad thing? Maybe she's really learing to appreciate and love literature because she's able to read so much, and has the time to do it, and she can really SEE the writing styles, etc. now???

I love when God gives me glimpses into the loveliness of homeschooling, and that maybe I'm not doing such a bad job after all!

Now, to get my SONS to appreciate literature like she does! Hmmmm..............guess God gives me different glimpses for them!

Tracy,

That's great!

I think re-reading is a wonderful thing. We do it all the time here.
