Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

After reading the Magic Eraser posts, I've been thinking about medication safety. How do you keep refrigerated meds out of the reach of children? I have cardiac meds for my 2 yo dd and they do not have child proof tops. She knows they are hers which worries me that she might try to drink them herself. I do need to keep them fairly accessible since she takes them four times a day. Any ideas?

ask the pharmacist? perhaps they have lids that are child proof that would fit? or perhaps they have bottles with such that you could get and move the meds to?

Thanks, Jodie. The bottle has a special top that the oral syringe fits into for dispensing, so it can't be transferred to another bottle.
I did think of something to try: I am going to ask the pharmacist if they have a large bottle with a child proof lid to put the whole med bottle into.

Hi,

I am a mom to a child with Chronic health issues and I believe that pharmacists are required to put medication in a child proof bottle if you ask for it.

I've seen medicine safes before. I did a quick search and this one was the first result: http://www.improvementscatalog.com/home/improvements/44824-S mart-Guard-Medicine-Safe.html

I agree with others that the pharmacy should provide a childproof lid.

on the cheap side...

you can get a small cooler, maybe even the lunch pail size, and attach a lock to it. Place entire thing in frig.

this is what my dh did with his diabetic equipment while living in dorms at college.

Wow...thanks Kelly for that link. That is exactly what I've been looking for. My 87 year old dad lives with us and takes tons of meds and I'm always paranoid that the kids will get to his stuff...even though I keep them pretty high up. I think this is just perfect...where my dad can still get at it easily (better then a lock) and yet will keep the kids out.

Thanks for the input ladies.
My dh was just at the apothecary the other night picking up my dd's meds. The one small glass bottle fits into a large plastic medicine bottle with a child-proof cap on it. The other medicine is in larger bottle and they were able to give us a child-proof cap for it. I need to switch caps every time I use it, as I need to put on the cap that the oral syringe fits into for proper dispensing. But we are happy to have a safe way to store the meds!
