Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son (4) has it. Does anyone have any experience of this and any advice to share? He's got horrible mouth ulcers and any suggestions to soothe them would be great.

It's apparently very contagious. If one of your children had it, did the others get it? i'm dreading facing weeks and weeks of isolation as the three children get it one by one. (And I've only got 3!)

Yogurt is a good thing because it doesn't require chewing or swallowing lumps. All of my daycare kids had it (the first one got it at a visit to the circus). It varied greatly...one had mouth ulcers and didn't eat much for almost a week. Another had lots of rash areas but not much in his mouth. My daughter got a very mild rash.

Just try very had to keep everyone clean and away from your poor son. I'll pray for you...I know just how tough your job is right now.

When I worked in a pediatric er we would mix a dose of liquid benadryl with a dose of Maalox and have the kids swish and then swallow.

My sister had it as a teenager. Neither my brother nor I caught it from her. I remember she ate applesauce and ice cream.

She still talks about how awful it was -- worse than getting her tonsils out she said (also as a teen).

I hope he feels better soon!!

Many thanks for the advice and prayers. Actually, yoghurt is the one thing he seems able to eat, so we'll keep going with that. We've been having him gargle and then swallow with ibuprofen but will check out the other suggestions with my dh (who's a doctor).

My eldest dd is now getting a bleeding mouth...

Elizabeth... mys sister too caught it (twice) as a kid... and none of the rest of us got it. I don't remember how bad it was for her, but here's hoping that no-one else gets it!

Just to say that thanks to all the kind and generous prayers and some attentive guardian angels, my son is completely better and his sisters have escaped unscathed. Praise the Lord!
