Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was replenishing our craft supplies and preparing for Christmas, and I happened across these. I thought they looked perfect for Alice's spoon saints! Fairly inexpensive too!

Oh! Those are awesome. You've consoled me, Lisa. I was feeling sad I'd missed all the spoon fun. Now, I'm glad I "waited."

Adorable Lisa, thanks!!!

And Elizabeth, you could never miss out on the fun. Collecting spoon saints would be a fun thing to do any time of year--you could even consider beginning in January, or perhaps during Advent!

It's not too late! I recently commented to Alice that they would make great ornaments for the Christmas tree!

Lisa,
What other supplies did you get at Oriental Trading?

Bridget, that really is a fabulous idea, especially if you collect the saints of the Christmas season suggested on the Advent Cubes (linked above). We probably won't have time to do all those saints as spoons, but maybe a few extra special Christmas-y ones--St. Nicholas, St. Lucy, St. Wenceslaus, St. Juan Diego, St. Stephen, OL of Guadalupe. We've also used the idea to make angels, and those would look great on a tree.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions!

Elizabeth,

I got some glue and glue sticks, pipe cleaner, pom poms, regular craft sticks, adhesive magnets, some scrapping paper and cardstock for Christmas cards, those type things. I like to order from Oriental Trading because they are cheap stuff comes in bulk. I like their school supplies too.

I really like this idea. We are going to use our Christmas tree as our Jesse Tree during Advent and adding a spoon saint for the December feasts among the Jesse Tree symbols would be wonderful.

In another thread I posted some other holiday uses I found on line for craft spoons. Now the comments above in this thread sparked an idea to make an adaptation in one - Santa & Elf. Instead of santa and elf spoons they could be the December saints or angels ("a multitude of the heavenly host"). They could hold mittens as the illustration shows or I was thinking more along the lines of a great Christmas card holder as they suggest. They could also be used as clips on a string and not mounted to wood.

Mary M.

Now I really like the idea of Santa and his elves holding cards or mittens (or as you suggest, angels and the heavenly host!).

Marvelous ideas ... now if I just had time to do them all.....

We made spoon saints yesterday during Little Flowers. I was amazed by the girls' creativity. I tried to take a photo, but the card was full.

I suggested to the girls that they might want to make nativity scenes, using the spoons, during Advent. The children were excited about this prospect. I have been adding spoon saints to hand-delivered "Thank you" cards.

Thank you, Alice, for sharing your creativity. Most of the girls took extra spoons home to make more saints and the moms were impressed with your idea.

The ones Lisa suggested would also be great for making puppet saints or nativity figures. My children enjoy putting on little puppet shows.

Thank you so very, very much. I would love to include the saints the girls made in my post about spoon saints! (Coming very soon, I promise!)
