Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was asked to read the first reading for a memorial Mass tomorrow evening and I am really nervous. I have some questions about what to do and what to expect.

How will I know when I should go up?
Will the reading be open on the lectern or will I have to find it?

Stuff like that...

I've been a lector in the past...

Generally, I go up after Fr. concludes the opening prayer and everyone sits down. With a memorial mass, there is no body, correct? Not really 100% sure how the order of a memorial mass goes.

Is this at your usual parish? How do they usually do the readings? Our priest usually prints those types (that aren't in our regular lectionary readings) of readings up and has them in a special binder.

Maybe it would be best to be there extra early so you can ask Fr. these questions ahead of time?

Just a few thoughts,
God bless,
Angela
