Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Tomie dePaola was at a book signing in Raleigh NC last night. We went as a family with cautious expectations. I've met "famous" people before and wished I hadn't! But, I have to say it went well. He wasn't feeling well, but was a trooper! He personally signed three of the books we bought, graciously took a picture with us and thanked my daughter for the pictures she drew for him.

He has a new book out called, Christmas Remembered. It is not necessarily a children's book. As he notes in the beginning, "...if you want to read this to your children, grandchildren or your class, feel free to "edit" or omit the drinking spots." He read the first story at the signing and all laughed.    Classic family Christmas story! They are all about personal memories from his favorite holiday. So there is some editing, but from what I've read, I like it. It's worth checking out, if you're a fan!

We've met a few well known folks and sometimes we've also walked away feeling different about them.

It's wonderful to hear that even in person Mr. dePaola is a nice person.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pic (if you plan to share )

Yeah! I'm glad you went and enjoyed it. We didn't get to hear him read aloud, so you were really blessed. Can't wait to see the picture (hint, hint).

Here's how I did it. Set up an account (free) on photobucket.com. Upload the picture there, then cut and paste the complete [IMG] tagline into a post here and voila, it should show up online here. Check Preview post to see if it works.

Oh Jennifer...I'm SO glad it went well. Did Cora mention to Mr. dePaola that she corrects her extended family members' pronunciation of his name when they try to read one of his books to her? Just curious .

Love,
Sis and...

I wish I could have gone!

One of the moms in the TORCH group here said that the only negative was that she asked him who were his favorite or top 2 saints and he told them all that he wasn't Catholic but was raised Catholic. I'm sure he said it nicely but... the kids, I'm sure , would wonder about that. He said he liked all the legends about the saints.

I still wish I could have gone, but Mary danced beautifully and I just couldn't for-go that "performance".

JoAnna, who also wants to see pictures!

We were there too! We had never been in this part of Raleigh, so it took us a little while to find the store. Then we had a hard time finding a parking space (our 15 passengers vans does require some room ). Sadly we had missed the reading and the line for the signing was already very long. An hour and a half later we finally made it to the table where a very tired Tomie graciously signed all our books and managed to smile for a quick picture.

I'll post the picture when I figure out how to do it.

I am also trying to post on my blog but I just got a message that I have exceed my disc space, and I am not sure what to do about that.

I've exceeded my space, too. I've had to delete or make my images smaller in size, and now use Photobucket for some of my pictures. It's complicated, takes too long, and I'm probably looking for a new blog home. And not looking forward to that process.

I have learned to never ask questions when meeting someone I "like". I just thanked him for so many wonderful Saint books. That was it.

I called the store Tuesday morning, bought my book, and got a ticket . I had heard that was the best way to get an early ticket!

You guys could use Flickr.com. You can host up to 200 pictures there before you have to pay anything. They let you resize too!

I exceeded mine a long time ago and now use flickr for my photos. You have a bandwidth limit per month, but I have never used it all. And it is free and easy.

Cora was, believe it or not, very quiet. I think she was star struck! Angie, if you know how to post the TdeP photo with our family, you have my permission!

Here is the picture. Felix is on the left with Laurence, Dominique and Matthias are on the right. Tomie was very tired so I had to be quick taking the picture.

Louise, your sons are so handsome! What a great picture!

I just talked with a mom in my parish. I saw her run into the bookstore as we were leaving for the signing in Middleburg. She talked about how her daughter 10 years ago wrote a letter to him, and he wrote back, and enclosed some things with the letter. It made such an impression, that the mother said "We HAD to go!"

While I love some of his work I am not surprised he is not a practicing Catholic. He is quite supportive of alternative lifestyles.
