Art Easel and Art Set - 48 pc.
Has anyone purchased this? pros/cons? I have at least 2 children that are very talented in this area and it's sooo expensive to encourage! I saw this and it sure does seem like a great deal. I've seen paint kits alone for more than that. I'm thinking it'd make a great santa gift.

We have this although my dh's parents gave it to Isabella a couple of years ago for Christmas and got it from Costco.
Anyway, the wood seems soft and care must be taken with it.
So, I offer that for what it is worth. It would be much easier to deal with if you have a designated space for it and you don't have to manipulate it constantly...

My girls (10/8) just got the easel/kit AND the separate art kit they had too ($20 or 30 for that - can't remember), and they like it! An artist that saw it said it's not the stuff he would work with, but for their age, it's a great start for the money. I thought it was a great price and decent quality, and I'm always looking at those kits/easels and passing them off as too cheap! My girls are both artistically inclined, and they've painted some very nice pics since we've gotten it. I like it because they have something to take outside and paint on (really feels like you're a true artist  )!

Wendy,
I'm looking for an art easle that my dd can paint with water colors on. Because they are runny, if the easle isn't slanted enough the paint runs down the paper and she gets quite frustrated. Does this easle allow the child to slant the picture enough so the colors don't run?

Becky - you don't say how old your daughter is, but since she has water running down the paper, I'm assuming she's younger? Once a child has a handle on watercolors and there's not so much mess, I'd say this easel would be good. It does slant PLENTY, but when it is really slanted the drawers in front seem like they would be in the way a bit, making for an awkward painting angle, especially if the child was shorter. The other concern would be too much water soaking this wood - I don't think it's a hardwood and at the very least, the water might affect the finish over time. I guess I wouldn't classify it as a preschool or beginner's painting easel - more an easel for those who have been painting a bit or who are relatively "neat" when painting! HOpe this helps.

Yes it does. Thanks Wendy! This is probably changing the subject a bit, but any recommendations for an art easle for younger kids? We have one from Step 2, but it is too short for her. I think we got it for her when she was 3 and it worked fine then but now she is 7 and too tall for it.

The Step 2 art easel is 42"H I think, and the tallest easel I've seen is 48" H...so I don't know if that would be tall enough either? The 48"H adjustable height easel provides a 24" square work area and is a basic hardwood two sided easel available from www.ECMDstore.com (#R0039). It's listed at $76.32 + s/h. I would imagine if you want more adjustability with height and such, you're probably looking at a professional easel, which I don't have a source for and is probably a lot more expensive - thus the reason we were so excited over this offer!

I just clicked on the Living Literature thread and Julie's link to her site Julie's Stuff and the first thing in her Specials is the Melissa and Doug easel with paints and roll of paper for $45.80!!
