Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Friends,

Nina and I know an absolutely beautiful priest from our former days at Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara, CA.

His name is Father Edward Warren.

He is currently in residence in Los Gatos and will be 89 on his next birthday - Feb. Now, Father Warren's eyesight is going.

But Father Warren LOVES JOKES!!!!!

Do you have any jokes that you could share and I'll pass them on to him?

Perhaps we could offer a "Hail Mary" with each joke letting him know that this homeschooling community is praying for him, as well? He's such a beautiful, beautiful soul. I know he would appreciate it. He's the kind of soul who would probably "tear-up" knowing that we're praying for him.

Thank you very much...

I only get the ones that come in emails... but here is a good one (it has been around but it IS funny)

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY? (written by kids)

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelli ng at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that Usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and pla y dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

HOW WOUL D THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favorite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
-- Ricky, age 10

Oh, Maria, you just brought so many memories rushing back to me.    Fr. Warren is a dear priest. He used to say Mass at the Carmelite monastery up the road from Santa Clara University when I was in college. He used to walk around the campus, praying the Rosary. He also said Mass at the Carmelite monastery on the Sunday that my husband proposed to me (my husband proposed to me in the Church after Mass). I often went to Our Lady of Peace for Mass, too. My husband and I have a photo of us standing in front of the huge statue of Mary.

Although I don't have any jokes to share, I will be praying for Fr. Warren, as his 89th birthday approaches.

Christine,

We were at SCU from '86 to '91!

We LOVED Fr. Warren's Masses at the monastery. Brings tears to my eyes thinking of that beautiful place.

Matthew hung on Father Warren like a groupie at Msgr. Sweeney's funeral, Maria. He just kept following him around trying to talk to him, get blessings, etc. "The priest who baptized me..."---he was so sentimental. And Fr. kept cracking jokes the entire time every time anyone would ask him for advice or tell him they loved him. He was always so self-effacing and humble combined with that brilliance. Almost seemed impossible. Wouldn't you have loved to be at SCU in the Theology department the days HE taught?

It is a small world. I definitely would have liked to take a Theology class from him!
