Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are full swing into gardening here! Have planted heaps of herbs and vegies in the potager including a purplish variety of basil. Ds(9) asked me how plants with non-green leaves photosynthesise; could someone help with an answer?

Alison, these plants still have chlorophyll. They just have other pigments as well.

Thanks MacBeth
Hadn't thought it'd be as simple as that. Great when you can learn at the same time as the kids! Now if I can just figure out the best way to raise carrots from seed.i read somewhere you mix the seeds with sand in a jar and keep damp til they sprout.
    thanks again

Mixing fine seeds with sand works well to distribute seeds evenly in the garden, you can also use a salt or sugar style shaker to shake the dry sand/seed mix over the garden.
