Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you have ever thought about, or done something to determine your child's reading level? I am interested in knowing my childrens' reading level (as Sarah asked what hers is today), and wasn't sure how to go about doing that? I don't want to spend a lot of money to do it if that's possible either.

Does anyone know anything about how to go about doing that? Thanks.

Answering my own question, I was able to find a few resources online to help me try to at least give me an idea.    They aren't ideal, but at least I have an idea now. Thanks.

I also did a search on this list to see, and there was a thread or two on this subject too.

Thanks.

Tracy

We use SWR and they recommend the McCall Crabb's books. I don't know much about them, just what I've read as we don't have them yet. But there are books A - E. Each book has a lot of 3-minute(?) stories with comprehension questions at the end. You are supposed to time your child and then ask the questions at the end. You can determine your child's reading level by the number of questions they answer correctly.

As we don't have them yet, I also have wondered about this question. The other night my dd7 was reading (slowly) through a chapter book from the library. I was curious so after she went to bed, so I typed up a page or so into Microsoft Word and did the Readability Statistics. It came out at a 4.5 grade level. I'm guessing this isn't really accurate but it gave me an idea.

HTHs if only a little,
Michelle

That's so helpful. I can check their levels just by looking up the titles of some of the books they are reading. Much better than testing!
