I just started a Christmas blog. I am hoping it will be a source of information and inspiration to people wishing to get more out of the Advent and Christmas seasons. I have asked (bullied) a few people into being guest authors on the site and their creativity and point of view will make this a wonderful spot on the internet. You'll have to check the blog for announcements about who is posting. They'll be forthcoming in a day or two.
O Night Divine
I hope that all of you will visit and leave lots of suggestions and ideas in the commments boxes. I also am asking anyone who has a special way to celebrate the season, liturgical or secular, to PM or email me - I would love to have you "guest post" for me. If you are shy I will post for you.
The site is still in the birthing stage - so be patient while I get it gussied up.

oh wow Mary Ellen,
This is such a great idea. I have a very short blog reading time but I'll add this one.
I love reading about Christmas. I've collected a lot of OOP books and cookbooks as well as more recent publications. I'll have to look and see if there's anything I can send to you.

oh this sounds neat... I don't blog or read many.. I'm at this board and another much smaller and one that is much busier.. and that's usually it for me.. but I do love the Christmas season.. and I've put a lot of work into figuring out how to do Christmas traditions that my dh and I both grew up with and yet shift it all into the proper season of Advent and Christmas.. and adding in those things missing.
The only kinda unusual things I think we do (so far) are
St. Nicolas comes for St. Nicolas Day AND comes again to celebrate Christmas (Santa and St. Nicolas being the same)
Pink and Purple paper chains for our Advent calenders.. so that we can have it for the whole advent season.. not just starting from Dec 1.. and it's affordable with 6 kids all wanting to have their own.. not to mention how very different from Christmas my living room looks festooned in all the pink and purple. This year I'm going to start putting the Jesse Tree verses on our paper chains (no place to add a Jesse Tree)
We do actually wait and decorate the inside of the house and the tree on Christmas Eve.. last year when we had more than one tree, we set up the trees a day early but still waited on the decorating.. DH takes the day off work if necessary.

Thank you for the new blog.
Advent is usually upon me and I am searching for my wreath and candles.
This afternoon I cut the coleus and sweet potato vine plants in my entrance planter. Now I have 4 canning jars of red, yellow, purple and lime green cuttings on my windowsills. I hope to pot the cuttings for an interesting mantle decoration--hoping to accent with gold ribbon this Christmas.
Not sure how it will work out but your posting reminded me to take cuttings before the first sneaky frost.
I also ordered a copy of the Gooseberry Patch book.

, Mary Ellen!
I am *so* thrilled about your Christmas blog! It will bless us all so very much!! I had thought I might like to do something like this, but realized it would just be too much to take on right now - so I am just overjoyed that you have decided to start one!
I absolutely *love* the name. And the blog itself looks beautiful already! I know I promised banner help from dh - we've been entertaining his folks all day but will have him take a look this evening.
You are such an angel to do this for us all, Mary Ellen! What a fun way to start off the season!!
Blessings and big, big hugs!

Mary Ellen, if you are open to having a post or two about other country's celebrations, I can share how we used to celebrate the Christmas season in the Philippines -- some of it we've carried over to the US and other countries.
Awesome idea! Looking forward to your posts and your guest bloggers'.

Perfect timing, Mary Ellen! I decided last week that I was going to start planning for Advent and Christmas NOW so as to avoid the seemingly inevitable stress of trying to fit it all in too late. I got out my Fly Lady Holiday Control Journal and started planning. And here is your Christmas Blog. Yay!

Mary Ellen,
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Advent and Christmas. I could do a post about Advent/Christmas in Austria...it's a wonderful time of year and still celebrated "the right way"!
Thanks for a bit of Holiday cheer on this sort of dreary Fall day here in Denver!

I'm so excited about this. I was nursing the baby and thinking what should I be doing now to make the Advent and Christmas seasons wonderful for my family; I came down to the computer and found this. An answer to prayer right on my computer screen! Thank you!!

It is very exciting to have a Christmas blog! Thank you! I will definately be using it a bit as the season draws nearer.
I too love the name - I recently heard Celine Dion sing O Night Divine and I can't help but to cry as I feel as though my heart will burst! It is lovely when beautiful, religious songs can make you feel this way.
