It's very strange to me that the part that the Muslims and others took such exception to, is a very small part of the whole talk, and also actually a quote from an emporer in the Middle Ages.

The main question in the talk is whether God is bound by reason or alternately, if His transcendent nature allows Him to break the rules of reason.   Benedict says: Consequently, Christian worship is "logic latreía" -- worship in harmony with the eternal Word and with our reason (cf. Romans 12:1).

I love that!

So do I. In fact, the whole speech gives me chills--good ones. It has caused me to look at Allah in a new way.

When we were children, we were told in CCD (or what passed for CCD) that Allah is God, and we and Muslims share a common belief in Him. But is this true? It seems that the Allah of Islam is closer in nature to the Jinn of Persia than to the God of Abraham. What is God without reason?

I just blogged the whole article. I heard Fr. Fessio speak in a similar fashion over a year ago in Philadelphia. That talk wasn't taped but I so wish it had been. He speaks to this issue so well.
