Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love the look of stenciled quotes that go across a wall like a wallpaper border.

If you were to stencil a quote, what would it be? Has anyone done this in their home?

My kitchen has the same quote as my tag line: Benjamin Franklin's quote:

What Good shall we Then do with Today?

It's not a religious quote, but it kind of sums it all up for me.

I'd quote Blessed Mother Teresa....often.

I'd probably start with "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." or, "There are no great things, only small things with great love. Happy are those.", or "Love is doing small things with great love."

and move onto "I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world."

And LOVE this one: "I do not pray for success, I ask for faithfulness."

And this one kills me: "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish"

I love this one:"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."

Love this one too: "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies."

And: "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier."

And: "Joy is prayer - Joy is strength - Joy is love - Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls."

Just a few of my favs.

I've thought about doing this too, but am afraid I'll end up painting it crooked or something. I LOVE quotes on walls, and think they can speak volumes. So maybe I'll just do some anyway.

Being a singer, and being married to an organist, and being a musical family, I LOVE old hymns, and Psalms! Lines from hymns and Psalms would make great quotes as well!!!

My favorite of all time: "Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee...How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art!" And the line in that hymn, (my favorite), "And when I think that God, His son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in..when on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died, to take away my sin!"

Obviously that's a bit long, but I was also thinking of doing some calligraphy type of things and putting them behind an old wooden window with little squares and hanging it on the wall. I have a window we garbage picked that I want to antique white, or crackle, and put three hymns in three windows, with pressed green ferns/plants/flowers in the other three. My living room walls are lime green, so that'd be really pretty!

OK, thanks for making me think about what I really want again! I need to FINISH my kitchen and living room, and you've inspired me!

Hope this helps!

Someone posted this on a board. I have not bought from them but I'd really like to!

http://www.wallwords.com/

I tried to make the link work here. Did it work? I'm not sure how to do that so there is only one way to find out Does this work?

http://www.wallwords.com/

Anyway, even if you don't want to buy from them...look at ALL the great quotes! You could be stenciling for hours!

I'm thinking of this among possible faux painting ideas. I also like the random faded words stenciled into the design. Let us know what you pick Sarah.

I wanted to stencil something like "I am the vine and your are the branches..."etc... across my kitchen by the ceiling...(above the cabinets) I wanted to use some kind of paint technique so it would look like it was aged there and still looked nice.    I am still pondering on the effect of this. I was thinking ...grapes...fruit would be good for a kitchen.

Tracy, I just LOVE all those BMT quotes!!!! I am copying them down for our copywork for the next few weeks! I have a T shirt with another one of her quotes which reads: How can there be too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers!" Love it! Now to find a way to use this in our house as well!

If only I had the talent!

I have "Let us not grow weary of doing good." Gal 6:9 in my kitchen, the spot I most often grow weary.

We had several Scripture verses stenciled all throughout a former home. My favorite was 1 Corin. 2:9 "Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned on man, what God has prepared for those who love Him"...Using the same font and antique gold paint gave the look subtlety and continuity that fit well with our "shabby cottage" look back then. Stenciling letter by letter is quite time consuming and tedious (especially if you stencil near a ceiling), but the finished effect is inspiring and worthwhile. I have dreams of being able to use wallwords, since I'm much less industrious than I was fifteen years ago! Have fun if you embark on such a wondrous project!!!

I have not done this, but have seen it done and really like it.

One house had in the entryway of their home the quote from Joshua: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" or something to that effect. That was the first time I had ever seen something like that and it made quite an impression.

I was thinking:

"If you don't work, you don't eat."
Capt. John Smith (Jamestown 1607)

I'm kidding. . . (although its tempting )

Now, I'm wondering if stenciling is the way to go. I think talented people actually do it freehand.

Thanks for your ideas, ladies. I haven't thought of what to do yet.

My cousin did this stencil on the wall of my two god-daughters' pink and lace fairytale room (white stencil against a pink wall). She stenciled:

"Once upon a time in a castle far, far away there lived two beautiful princesses named R.L. and R.M."

Their first name and middle names were spelt out.

It was totally enchanting.

oh.. that's much older than John Smith

2 Thessalonians 3:10

"In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat"
