Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just received an email on the TORCH loop about the Martin family - the father and one of the daughters drowned in a riptide while on vacation in Ocean City - leaving the mother and five other daughters. I think the family was quite involved in the NACHE conference. I will post a link if I get one.
I cannot imagine the pain and loss. I will say my rosary now and offer up all the pain from my burns for this family.

I heard this through another loop today also. I can only imagine their devastation.

We will be praying.

Praying for the family - repose of the soul of dad and daughter and for strength and comfort only God could provide in so tragic a situation.

Here's a link from their parish. I don't know the Martins personally, but Amy was an Irish dancer at the same school my dd has just begun attending.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

And here's a link to the memorial page for Amy created by Teelin School of Irish Dance:

Amy's Memorial Page

Joining my prayers to yours,

The sister-in-law of this family is in our hs group. I got an email early today...heartbreaking. Dh and I are stunned. I will be offering everything up for them and for the sister of Mrs. Martin, that she might be a source of strength for her sister in this tragedy.

This is so unbelievably tragic. I am praying for them all.

Today's Washington Post has a story about the tragedy here: In Md., a Father's Final Act of Love. What a beautiful tribute to the family during this terrible time.

I received this update this morning:

Dear Friends in Christ,
The loss of Doug and Amy has been an incredible burden on all of our
hearts and yours. The swell of support and love, prayers and devotion has
made this experience more bearable. We cannot sufficiently express our
appreciation for all that everyone has done.
We would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of you
for your prayers and support. It has been an incomprehensible human
tragedy, eased by the overwhelming presence of God's LOVE. All your
prayers, indulgences, love, acts of piety and Masses that have been
offered these last few days have helped lift this burden. Please do
continue your good works and support as they will be needed and
appreciated in these weeks, months and years ahead. The amount of grace
that has gently yet boldly invaded this home has been almost a physical
presence.
The following arrangements for Doug and Amy Martin will be held at Our
Lady of Perpetual Help church (4795 Ilchester Road, Ellicott City MD
21043) as follows:
* There will be two viewings, BOTH TO BE HELD AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL
HELP CATHOLIC CHURCH
Tuesday, September 19th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Wednesday, September 20th , from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm (preceding Mass)
* The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 3:00 pm on Wednesday,
September 20th, followed by the interment at the parish cemetery.
Immediately following there will be a reception at the church hall.
We have asked that in lieu of flowers, educational scholarship donations
may be made to:
The Doug and Amy Martin Memorial Education Fund
c/o Mr. Dale Murphy, Trustee
1710 Saddle Drive
Gambrills MD 21054
Checks may be made payable to The Doug and Amy Martin Memorial Education
Fund.
Thank you again for your overwhelming display of generosity. Please pass
this notice along to any interested parties we may have missed.
Yours in Christ's Love,
The Martin Family
