Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

God gave me another glimpse of why home schooling is so perfect for our family. Sarah, who’s 11yo, and beginning 6th grade, just loves reading! She loves, loves, loves reading! She reads voraciously. She’s reading C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia series right now. This morning, she came in the kitchen saying,

“What a chapter! I like how he relates things to real life and how they feel. And how he talks about stuff as if it was real.”

It gave me cause to ponder a bit. I have to wonder if she’d have this same love of reading if she was going to school, and being forced to read certain books off of a list that I probably wouldn’t approve of, and would have many non-well written books on it. I do attribute part of it simply to God’s making her this way , and also the fact that we’ve chosen a literature based learning approach.

Now, to be fair, Sarah also has also loved reading Mary Kate and Ashley books, and some other not so well written (twaddle) books as well. I’ve allowed her to read some things for fun, because I think it’s good for her to actually *see* the difference by experiencing the reading. And sometimes I like to read books just for fun, and not quality, if that makes sense. So I think that it’s good to create a balance, as with all things in life. :o)

So though I’m steering some of her choices in literature, I like to allow her to make most of her own choices too. She chose to read *The Chronicles of Narnia* herself, and she’s enjoying it immensely! What a great thing! And it makes me happy to see her loving reading, and loving good literature after all these years. God is always SO GOOD to show me glimpses of the fruits of my labor in following His will in this journey.

Just some thoughts as I’m up this morning, procrastinating the clearing off of my kitchen table.

Love,

Tracy
