My brother and his fiancee are planning their wedding for next year and are considering honeymoon destinations. They are getting married on October 27, 2007. They are considering honeymooning in Austrailia, but would like to know what the weather would be like that time of year and where a good place to go would be. Any suggestions from you native Austrailians? Thanks!

Dear Dawn,

In Queensland it is very warm at this time of year, in fact, end of October is quite a perfect time to visit - not cold but not ridiculously hot! (End of Spring and early Autumn are beautiful times of the year if you are not used to the terrible heat.) At the top end of Queensland or Northern Territory it is terribly hot in October already, down south in Tasmania and Victoria it is still nippy in the mornings and evenings. We have just entered Spring a few days ago and we hardly had a winter to speak of this year, I am in my summer nighties already just to give an idea of the mild weather.

What do you think they would like to see in Australia Dawn? There is so much to see but they might have definate ideas about what in particular.

Queensland has the very famous beaches of course, we are situated (on the northern outskirts of Brisbane city) half way between the Gold Coast (1 & 1/2hours drive south) and the Sunshine Coast (3/4 hours drive north) these places are extremely popular, 20 mins inland of the Gold Coast is the Gold Coast hinterland which is great for bushwalking and seeing rainforests, wineries etc. Whale watching is popular in Queensland, we have one company leaving from our peninsula in Moreton Bay but there are others in Queensland too.

I can tell you more about other places around Australia that I would recommend, but just ask them first what sort of things they hope to see in particular and do they want to be mainly in one spot or travel Australia widely?

I'm not a native, but my sister and her husband honeymooned in Australia in October a few years ago. I know they visited both coasts and snorkelled somewhere near the Great Barrier Reef. I know she would be happy to speak with you via phone or email. If you want her information, just pm me. :)
